1970's Hy Gain SP-500 VS. Avanti Astroplane

Howdy, Mark. Should have bought a better TV. I never had any problems with my Astroplanes. Just get them in the air, and properly use a Common Mode Choke. Never bothered any electronics and made lots of contacts local and DX.

    Adjustments for resonance

Conjugate 1a: joined together especially in pairs : COUPLED a conjugate relationship - Good! b: acting or operating as if joined - Murky 2a: having features in common but opposite or inverse in some particular - bad, bad, bad, bad... It's the 2a's that gets to me.

    Adjustments for resonance

You did fine for me. I was only asking because many newbies, and a few old farts, find this confusing. I'm not having any issues. Just trying to get things simpler. You see, when I was learning to communicate with an audience as a young minister an older, wiser, & more experienced preacher...

    Adjustments for resonance

I don't have a 3.1 SWR. That is hypothetical. What I do have is the inclination to see a contradiction in the idea that a lower SWR is not as good as a farther swinging meter needle, or in my case, more red lights turned on. In my experience, 50 Ohms is presented to the rig by a tuner, or...

    Adjustments for resonance

Two slinkies. Steel. Also wire on each end of the slinkies.

    Adjustments for resonance

Nope Yes Slinky dipole in the attic. 80m -10m. Don't know. It's hooked up xceiver>coax>tuner>coax>1:1 Xformer>450 Ohm twinlead> dipole New. Don't know. Most of the questions were hypothetical.

Real CB Radios are side mic

I had a cb and it was a front mic. I talked all over the place with it. It was solid material, too. Good hefty weight. And it had a front mic. ...then I woke up and I didn't even have a cb. I was CQing my alarm clock.

    Adjustments for resonance

So, I just pretend that my peak forward is really not at the 3.1:1 SWR although my tuner says it is. The tuner is lying about the 3.1 but not the peak forward. If so, then maybe it's also lying about the peak forward... I tell you, you can't trust these tuners to tell a straight story.

    Adjustments for resonance

Here's the next question: If my peak forward is at a 3.1:1 SWR, indicating a resonant system, what's the point? After all, the 3.1 SWR will cause my transmitter to fold back so severely I may as well be transmitting on a dry noodle, yes/no? Explain in simple terms; remember, some of us hail from...

    AT-778UV Mixed Emotions

I will try it in the mobile and see how it goes. Maybe with a lower gain antenna I'll hear less mess.

    AT-778UV Mixed Emotions

And there's the rub. Apparently it does not have sufficient internal filtering, and I am not the fellow a person wants looking inside a radio. On a Baojie BJ-218 it sounds like the NOAA weather bleeding in. Here's what I'm getting on the AT-778UV...

    AT-778UV Mixed Emotions

I am not sure of the source, except it gets worse as I go up the 2m band from 146 MHZ. I'm going to park in the 152/153 MHZ are and see what happens.

    AT-778UV Mixed Emotions

When I look at these I become confused about which to get. They seem to be worthless when they are receive only... shows what I don't know. I just wish it had the rejection the other radios are/were equipped with.

    AT-778UV Mixed Emotions

A fellow once said he had mixed emotions. His mother in law had driven his new pickup truck over a cliff... There isn't anything about this radio for the money I didn't like, until... I put a Tram 1481 antenna up (it was a gift) increasing my tx/rx range over the smaller verticals I'd been...

What does Exnec say about a couple of Moxon Calculators?

Yes, the Moxgen. zip download. At one time it was online only. Then it could be downloaded. https://moxgen.software.informer.com/1.0/
