www.smileyantenna.com are the best you can get. They are hand made and tuned, the are 100% American made. They are however not dual band so you would need two. They do sell a dual band one but it's flimsy and not good for walking around with.
I have one and yes the firmware is upgradable but honestly the radio is crap. The AM Aircraft receive is very prone to being swamped, the build quality is suspect and yes I have several Chinese HTs to compare it to. Its only redeeming value is the ability to hack the firmware.
While not on 11 meters but I have run stacked Cushcraft 17B2 17 element beams at 80'. It was a pain in the ass to setup but it worked great. For those that don't know this was on 2 meter 144.200mhz.
