    Another 55v no xmit

No bias diodes or bias trim pots in a 55v. Has a 22uh inductor in each trim pot location for driver and final. Got another 55v from the same guy for a parts radio. It hasn't had any parts removed yet so I figured I would see if I could get it going instead of the no xmit 55v. Well this parts...

    Another 55v no xmit

R220 in circuit tests as 465.3 ohms. Might need to yank it out to test it.

    Another 55v no xmit

Got another Galaxy DX 55V on the desk. Been tracking this issue down for about 3 weeks now. New driver New final New pre-driver New Passthrough regulator New AF regulator New diode at D77 New 2.2uf 50v bias cap Both 22uh inductors new When keying, radio will switch from receive to transmit...

    Look what I found inside a 148...

Yes, it's an echo board in the cig pack. Never seen anything like this before in these radios, lol...but at least it wasn't going to short out. I'm just curious as to why they didn't just put an L tap on it and mount it to the chassis. You would think the radio would be hacked up after seeing...

    Look what I found inside a 148...

Omg, lol... I couldn't believe what I saw when I popped the covers off this old school 148 gtl. I'll let you guys/gals guess what it is. Hint, the srf/SWR/cal control has been removed from the front, taped off and laid inside the radio. for the control for what's in the cigarette pack,

    Retevis HS4 frequency adjustment

Anyone know where the transmit frequency adjustment is on the HS4 boards? Also, a local friend of mine asked me if there's any way to add the VFO windup to the Retevis HS4, I told him I wasn't sure and would have to look over the schematic first. However, I can't find a scheme for this radio...

Galaxy SSB Echo D9 mod question

Well, decided to switch it over to the D7 instead of D9 (since it's a 3600 board) and wow what a difference. It didn't bring the noise floor up but it sure did bring the signals up a lot. I just detuned the receive a little to compensate for the dramatic increase. Now the receive seems right.

Galaxy SSB Echo D9 mod question

Got the info from an article by FireBreather over at RadioMods.Co. Copy and paste: " "Super Ears" Modification - D9 HereÕs one that many folks ask me about and I was hesitant to include it here. This modification significantly lowers the effectiveness of diode D9 and greatly increases the...

Galaxy SSB Echo D9 mod question

It's called the D9 mod is all I know. It seemed to work on this old SSB Echo. Remove banded end of D9. Solder one lead of a 1.5k ohm resistor into the now empty D9 hole. Solder the other lead of above resistor to the free lead of D9.

Galaxy SSB Echo D9 mod question

Hi everyone, Got a Galaxy SSB Echo (another one) on the desk. As was the first one, and an Excalibur I had, this one presents low receive (ambient noise, noise floor) also. After I got the others to receive, I just let the receive go as it was, thinking that's about all I could get out of...

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

Update: Replaced both modulation VR's (checked them out of circuit also, both blown out). Resoldered R249 back together. Modulation set now. Shorted out TP3 and removed jumpers from TP to set bias properly. Driver - 50ma Finals - 50ma each (100ma total) World of difference. No power drop...

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

Turns out VR12 and VR14 is blown out. Checked them in circuit, nothing on ohm meter. Yanked them out and checked them, nothing on ohm meter. Checked others in the radio, all others show close to their stamped values. Hi and Lo carrier VR's are of newer types, as is all three VR's for the...

D92 I'm thinking is bad. I'll give an update when I get home and try it.

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

Again sneaky... Noticed I couldn't adjust the modulation VR's, so I suspected a limiter still clipped somewhere. Checked around and saw nothing clipped until I pushed on R249, then I saw the snip. Very neat snip, couldn't even tell it was snipped. Resoldered R249 back together, barely any...

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

Hmmm, sneaky people, lol... Just found a diode (1N4001) tucked under some wires and parts in the Passthrough area. This diode tied into the R238 circuit but closer to the Passthrough regulator, hid pretty good. Removed that diode, tested it out, so far so good. I've never mixed any swing mods...

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

Not sure what else to do. I've tried resetting the bias to 3.75v driver 3.50v each final and it still does it. Driver 3.75v, finals 3.50v each Driver 3.50v, finals 3.50v each Driver 3.20v, finals 3.50v each Driver 3.20v, finals 3.20v each No matter what bias setting I adjust to, the radio...

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

It's what he wanted in it. I prefer 2SB817 myself, then a TIP36C. Those two work just as good in my opinion.

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

So far, it's still dropping back on power (carrier and swing) after about 10 minutes of on and off talking (10 to 30 seconds at a time) and the heatsink behind the MaxMod/audio IC/8v regulator gets warm to hot, not scorching hot, the Mosfets get barely warm. The locals said it sounds great and...

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

Installed a zener on each final (I placed one on the driver previously). Reset bias. Reset key levels. Still drops after a minute or so, but doesn't drop back as much as before and climbs back up quicker than before. Nothing is getting anywhere near hot, Mosfets, Passthrough, AF, Audio IC...

General Lee dual 520 bias question...

Well, I figured I would hammer on it a few minutes before everyone else gets on the air just to monitor the output. 3w key with modulation - 40w, after 2 minutes the power dropped back again, same amount of drop as before. MaxMod cool to warm (barely warm). C145 not hot. Chassis behind audio...
