hurricane 145,
when you take the covers off the radio, unsolder the two wires that go to the meter.
now get your DMM and set it to the diode test function.
put the leads on the meter tabs and it should slam the meter over to the right side.
if it does, then the meter itself is probably ok...
Do you know whether he measured the primary or the secondary of the coil?
some of these coils have both and only one side is used.
also, with the ferrite slug, the value will vary depending on it's position.
Even if you have all that right, there is more to a tuning coil than just its value in...
this is going to be a difficult part to track down.
you're not really going to find any listed value, but the coil you are looking for is an LB-209.
It is for the 16mhz local oscillator circuit, and tunes the LSB section.
it also happens to be the same coil as L30 in your radio, so if you have...
thanks Brandon,
not sure how i misunderstood that you swept the freq range LOL!
its my friday and its been a hell of a week, yeah lets go with that.
i'll be sure to check out their site. thank you.
LC
hey Brandon,
first, very cool!
i need to get circuit lab!
can you try using a 400Hz tone instead of a 1K tone and show those results?
the reason i ask is because of something i've always noticed about this chassis when doing the alignment.
the PEP output of the radio seems quite a bit...
My radio addiction started when i was about 8 years old, which would have been around 1982.
I spent a lot of time in our garage replacing bike chains and splitting my dad's hardwood collection with 16 penny nails. (i was trying to build an airplane lol).
He had a radio in there that had more...
Cable Guy if i understand what you're asking correctly, i believe that circle indicates the body of a vertically mounted resistor and the line is the lead coming off the top.
LC
well all i can do is help add to the confusion.
here is a PCB layout from the service manual for the TRC-449 that Nomad provided to CBtricks (as always thank you nomad).
looks like the top resistor holes have nothing, the two below it have resistors installed, and the diode marking has a...
well there's always the Alabama Echo Box.
It's a long standing CB tradition in some areas of the country.
It is very simple to build!
All you need is a metal bucket or trash can that will fit over your head.
place the bucket over your head, put your mic inside the bucket with you and VOILA!
LC
Ive put this out before but i think one of the best deals that can be had on a lab quality frequency counter is the old HP-5381A.
yes its super old, and yes it only goes to 80mhz, but if you're only doing HF/CB work then it will work very well for you.
HOWEVER!
don't expect to buy one and...
Brandon i couldn't tell you why that coil is different in the "FCC certificated radios" as opposed to the 10 meter rigs, i just know that it was an actual service tech who worked at Galaxy that told me to do it.
as for the dual final mod working, it definitely did, and i know it was doing over...
the answer to this question is absolutely yes.
ive done it at least three times.
it's kind of funny to think about just how much experience i have taking these damn channel switches apart.
if anyone is planning on doing this, i HIGHLY suggest you take a million pictures of every step of...
L35 is the coil you need to remove the turns from.
this one:
DX959:
2517 (has dual finals from the factory)
and here is the thread from almost 20 years ago where i did this to my 959.
man i have been on this forum a long time LOL...
hi superlid.
do you mind giving a few details about what happened to the old switch?
im asking because there is a chance it's repairable, or not actually the culprit.
LC
depending on the order you replaced things, and whether or not you tried to TX during those replacements, you could have taken out one or more of your new parts.
this can lead to chasing your tail looking for a problem that you've actually already fixed but still have one or more bad parts...
this is a V2 chassis so there will be no potentiometers on the board.
check that large SMD transistor mounted to the PC board that is just to the right of the big green electrolytic cap.
be aware that if this part is shorted, it could take out other good components, so be sure to check all the...
ive seen it done that way.
it does put you on the wrong side of R293, but its only a 15 ohm resistor.
however, i seem to recall that when i tried doing it that way, i could not get the negative peaks "down" far enough meaning i couldn't get past about 75% "negative modulation" for lack of a...
you'll be fine with the 2sa1012.
and if you're going to add a second final, you should upgrade that AM regulator to something like the 2sb817 or a TIP36.
