thanks nomad!
i guess i was confused about how much idle current to use for a four mosfet setup.
You stopped at 80mA which tells me it tried to take off on you above that level.
Can you remember what the gate voltage ended up being at this level?
also thanks for the tip on the other VR!
i...
Hello all,
Does anyone have any experience manipulating the trimmer resistors on these amp boards?
here is a link to one: https://stores.goldeneagleradios.com/rci-x9-amp-board-with-hardware-feedback-no-warranty/
there is a VR near the input/output section, and another on the opposite end near...
I have found that the Noise Blankers in the 858 SSB chassis have a night and day difference in performance between when they are aligned with a signal generator set a 23.5mhz as opposed to being tuned by ear.
both methods will get you noise blanking, but they really shine when they are done...
Hi OT03,
I apologize if there was any confusion, i was asking you to send me a private message here on the forum so we could exchange information.
I'll send you an email tonight.

There is a very famous chart that became popular quite a few years ago that people like to use for making CMC's by winding coax.
its the one with all the green, red, and yellow. the guy who made it had a foreign call sign, something like GTX... or something like that.
the thing about this...
save yourself a world of headaches and get a set of these:

no need to remove any connections or coil any cable.

maybe a bit off topic since this is not a butane soldering iron, but if anyone wants a great tool to use for soldering PL-259 connectors, get one of these:

grind a small curve into the tip so it will sit...
yeah this should work just fine for you.
yes, the selector worked fine and turns nicely.
I used to put a lot of digimax kits in madisons for people so i have a stash of these.
I don't care about the money, just give me enough to ship it to you in a small flat rate box.
you can shoot me a...
just how much of the channel selector do you need?
I have a couple from madisons i converted to encoders, but i don't think the flimsy plastic with the traces will work for you.
but if you just want the selector itself i have one for you.

no they are just like this these days.
While im happy that people are having meters made that fit our radios, i do wish they were a bit better made.
Ive seen this with replacement 2000GTL meters, 142GTL style meters, as well as the galaxy and ranger meters.

you are getting good advice here, but just to answer your initial question; you have a dual final radio, meaning that out of the box the deadkey on AM would be around 8 watts.
That's too much for a 2 pill amp and depending on how a particular 4 pill is set up, it could be too much deadkey for...
if you watch Truck's video, you can see that there is a 2sc2166 driver in that 88.
pretty tell-tale sign that the parts have been on the boards for a long time.
LC
this is the same thing that happened with the Jackson years back right?
some of the boards had mold on them and some green component legs as well.
if these boards were in some shipping container or unconditioned warehouse/storage facility then they are probably very fragile.
these boards were...
well the first question i have is, which SWR are you talking about?
when you add an amp in line after your radio, you actually introduce an additional "load" that is different from the antenna "load".
let's say you have a cobra 29LTD that has a built in SWR meter.
you've checked it against a...
I would just add more diodes in series with D50.
make sure they are all pointed the same way as the stock diode.
each diode you add will lower the voltage to the driver and final by .6 volts.
you'll have to use trial and error to know how many diodes to add.
any 1N400x diode should work...
Brandon if only it were that simple lol.
the first series was crystal controlled and used bipolars for the mixers and push pull pairs for the audio amps.
these are the 21, 25, and 29.
after that came the XLR series that all used the UPD858 PLL, had FET mixers, and were all about the same with...
i used to run a 21GTL for a while and the main difference is that the 25LTD has a noise blanker circuit.
I actually added that circuit to my 21GTL as the board has the holes and silkscreens just not the parts.
the other differences are the RF gain and dimmer switch on the 25.
both models have...
TP8 is the one you're looking for.
its in the PLL section of the radio.
you'll have to set the offset inside the counter so you will need to find the instructions for that. should be easy to find.
You'll notice that the freq will read off by a bit on both USB and LSB and this is just something...
i was listening to some guys in california talking the other day and they said that the 111111 guy is just over the texas border in mexico.
Apparently there are people actively trying to locate him but he's on the other side of the border.
This is just what i heard so i have no idea if it's...
