Well, that's your call but I'd say, Ditch it for a new rig:) I don't like external freq counters. Internal is nice and clean. If you don't use SSB, that opens it up to all kinds of stuff so no need to limit yourself to SSB radios.

Yeah. Sales have slowed quite a bit on the Lincoln II. I'm enjoying mine but I'm ready for a change. I normally change every 2 or 3 months in the bench and the mobile, though I've stuck with the Optima for a while now in the mobile. I'll probably be changing that one as well.

Have you tried one yet? I can see the amplified speakers doing that. I'm a little surprised about the ear buds but what do I know? I don't use ear buds for anything.

Make sure you replace the diode or you might do more damage than that one trace the next time you plug it in backwards. Everybody plugs them in backwards at some point. You'd think it won't fit backwards but they get close enough...
Half the time, when the protection diode is fried, a trace is also burnt and you have to repair the trace. Radio facing you, top cover off, back left corner, about an inch in from back and left side. See if it's burnt. Lightly scrape off the green where it's burnt so the shiny gold trace is...
Us run the Wilson 5k mag in a heart beat, or sirio... They actually perform better than a 102" whip in allot of situations. My whip is right behind my glass in my pickup. Nearly two feet if it is below the roof. Because if that , it doesn't perform as well as it can. O
