I just realized I only use the single core choke BALUN and not the dual core on my beam antenna. While the dual core in theory can have a much higher choking impedance, I recalled reading different viewpoints about if they really do in practice and some suggest these types can actually work...
Toroid,
Be sure to by the correct Mix value for the toroid ring. Mix 31 is good for all HF frequencies from 1-300 Mhz while Mix 43 is rated at 25-300 Mhz. Either one for CB band only.
If you want the a ready made choke balun this one here is what I use. The Dual core choke balun offering the...
I once had the LDG AT-1000. They do tune well but the only compliant I had was the relays made some of the loudest clicks during tuning. The bigger box of the 1000 watt unit seem to amplify it more.
Of course all auto-tuners are noisy, just some are worse than others.
I still eyeball the big...
Interesting setup and some good tips, I do a lot of remote operating myself so I would like to share my experiences and what I use.
First, I'm surprised that Elecraft previously didn't have a remote server software program for their radio's. I have the KAT500 tuner and I use that for both...
Being out of warranty you free to send it anywhere.
I use this guy in the link below. I used him a couple times and he's done me right. I had a mobile HF amp that I thought I blew, turned out it was an internal fuse I didn't bother to open up and check. He could have easily taken advantage of...
How did you mount the base of the holder to the dash?
I'm looking to mount mine in my little truck soon so I'm looking into different mounting options.
I wouldn't trust a suction cup or most double stick tape cause that radio head looks heavy.
So what was the point to this thread?
Another I'm the best CB tech with no real technical training but I can can tweak and peak and solder parts better than anyone?
If the OP can design and build a radio and improve on the design where it's not necessary to do all those mods many users just...
Sounds like you've been through quite a lot over the past few years. Sorry to hear about your losses. Glad you're getting through it all OK.
We are all here to help each other by kicking around ideas and sharing past experiences.
One thing I just thought of that you may not know about DXE is...
The Rohn looks like an easy way to go. I would consider the ROHN H50 43 ft mast and take off the top section which is 1-1/4 in diameter so the next section should be 1-1/2 which is needed for the 1-1/2 U bolts for the Antron 99.
These appear to be 9 ft sections so a 43 ft minus 1 section...
Working with 2 inch galvanized or similar shouldn't be that difficult. If you want a telescoping setup with a 1-1/2 pipe inside, you should be able to stand on your roof and slide it in. I also should mention I drilled another hole on the 1-1/2 pipe near the top and put a bolt and lock nut so...
I used these from Max Gain systems for an OCF once used. These are excellent quality with easy thumb-locks for each section. They do come in a heavy duty version and different lengths up to fifty feet and they have lots of needed accessories like guy rings and easy to use guy rope tensioners...
That's all is need for full TX expansion for 10, 11, 12 and 15m.
You can set the radio for HAM bands and you only get the full 10m band while setting it up HF bands you get 24.715 Mhz to 31.105 Mhz and on 15m the range is limited to 21.000 to 21.500 Mhz and power is reduced to about 40 watts...
To add to that, You probably seen some Ham's shack pics with Henry 8k and 3k amps. How many of them have NEVER turned it up passed 1499 watts?
Of course if you push the limits on this site you can get banned as well but this site is far more forgiving.
I use QRZ for the logbook and lookups...
I agree with The Yaesu 450, it is a good rotor for small to medium size antennas. It is pricey and you'll need to purchase the lower mast clamps to attach to a pole. Also with a heavier rotor I would strongly suggest using a thrust bearing and use the supplied guy wire tabs to guy it more...
Nicely done!
Looks like it's about 36ft up in the air. Should work very well when 6m is open. I see your analyzer shows a full Mhz of bandwidth under 2.1 and the phone portion is the sweet spot.
I recently added a 6m dipole element that sits on top of my Mosley 5 band beam. I just copied the...
I perused Wolfman D-Rail CB shop and priced a STRYKER 955 with nearly all the services and gadgets he can do to the radio and it bumped up the price to a whopping $1730.00 and he doesn't include free shipping so that can be another $50 or so. With tax it'll be about 2 grand!
If you mostly...
That was a "Superwackpack-turbotunedtruckerised" LOL!
Funny how that superwackpack reference occasionally comes up on the forum. Radioactive's best tune up offered, how could you go wrong with a name like that?
I believe they disappeared into the AZ desert some time ago but the...
Wow! and to think what D-rail says about that certain infamous CB shop charging $800?
I watched a few minutes of D-Rail's YouTube videos and I sure wouldn't pay that kind of money for a radio to sound like that.
I purchased an Anytone 6666Pro from Scott's with no tune just the TX frequency...
