Have you ever priced 3 birds, a pep kit and enough slugs to use them? This is cheap compared to birds, plus all of the other functions you don't get with a bird.
It's funny when I stumble across a decade old post where that members asked some pretty silly questions. Apparently it's different when it's someone else.
My experience with base type antennas is limited to fiberglass verticals, dipoles, and endfeds. I have a steel extendable mast I can mount on my truck to get 30' easily, and I could probably do 40'.
I have an a99, but it seems kinda pointless. I considered making a horizontal dipole so I...
Would this also eliminate the sale threads where there is nothing actually offered for sale, and it's just a teaser for posting something at a later time?
Ebay once forced a refund on me because the flashlight I sold "smelled sweet." Ebay is happy to screw a seller, so I don't doubt one could return most anything if they know how to play the game.
I have driven by our local radioshack every day for 4 months and the thought never crossed my mind to stop. A few years ago half of their component bins were empty and the owner said everything had been on order for months. He didn't seem confident that he could ever fill them.
I'll have to...
Did you honestly believe he meant 0.666:1? I know that you know that isn't possible, nor is there a meter available that would read as a ratio to 3. Was it written as a ratio? nope. You are likely just being stubborn and nitpicky. That is ok, just don't be surprised if someone calls you on...
If we wanted to get technical, swr claims on this forum are typically just readings from an uncalibrated and relatively cheap vswr meter and will differ from the actual swr.
It would be silly for me to say you should state "my uncalibrated vswr meter reading is 1.5:1" I may however start...
Is this a mag mount specific competition? If not, you will likely lose to anyone not using a mag mount. Your ground losses must be massive for a whip that long.
I would hope you wrote it out in its entirety on a formal maintenance log. There is always a chance you could have to defend your log entries in court.
If you record the ":1" in your notebook while tuning your personal yagi, you are ocd. There is no problem with that, people just like to...
I don't know of anything that will be hurt by choking, and choking can significantly reduce many problems in a mobile. I can tell you that my 955hp would blink the seatbelt light and a few others barefoot, and now at 10 times the output I have only seen the seatbelt light flicker a few times...
Do you work in an industry (or know of an industry or situation) that expresses swr as a ratio like "3:2" or something? In CB and ham radio it is always expressed as "x.x:1" so the experienced operators here know right away that it is in fact a ratio. Seriously though, is the "1" in the ratio...
Palomar Engineers offers some choke options similar to what I made. There are a few frequency/impedance graphs if you are interested in learning more about different choking methods.
