1976. High School Friends were getting into to it and it seemed like interesting fun. First Radio was a JC Penny Pinto, 23ch, bought used from a local. Had a Modulation Light on the front that would fire when talking. Punky little 5A power supply and a new Hy Gain 5/8 Penetrator Ground Plane on...
I got my money back from ebay this morning on the seller-botched QT80 buy. Have a New one coming. Will be looking forward to trying it out. From what everyone has said I believe I'll be very happy with it. Will report back here what power mine does on 15 meters and also I'll provide the Power...
One last question/comment. I grant that I'm coming in towards the end of this although the thread is only from June 22, AND I have only recently become interested in getting (another) radio out of this category.
Anybody correct me if I'm wrong but is not the QT80 here a Q6PRO with a different...
So my recent attempted purchase of a Radioiddity QT80 on ebay for $200 has fallen through. I got concerned after the seller didn't ship after 4 days. When he finally responded he discovered .... which he should have known .... that being a newer seller with less than their prerequisite number of...
The Megawatts and similar budget supplies work great for cb & higher frequencies. Can't go wrong. For the ham side, they start throwing out nasty RFI around 24mhz and below. Again, NO noise at 11 meters and higher.
Hi Pez, Seeing reports that the 15M Power Output varies widely rig to rig. You said "slightly reduced" on yours but didn't mention the watts. What are you seeing on yours on 15M?
Somebody help me out. Here is the Mic wiring from the QT80 Manual. Unclear is Pin 4. wtf is Mic Key? For Cobra 4 Pin matchup would RX (black) go to Pin 4 ?
I'm gonna go for one of these. They are down to $276 on Amazon new and I am possibly able to get a like new used one on various sites for 170-200 ..... just waiting on peeps to respond to messages.
Hi Greg, You are showing two different adapters. Can you confirm which one the QT80 matches to? The 6 Pin configuring looks the same but one is RCI Style and the other AT 6666. I'm guessing is the 6666 as the Tag on the QT80 shown references { 6666Pro)
Thanks Greg, I thought afterwards that it might be a 6 pin rather than 8 and then wondering if it was a 6 pin RCI clone ..... and then an adapter. I have one of those in my stock.
Hi Mo, Do you know if the 8 pin plug is an Icom clone etc ....? I'm thinking about getting one of these soon. Looked on ebay for an 8pin QT80 to 4 Pin cobra Mic Adapter but did not see. I could always just rewire the mic plug to use a D104 already on hand.
Consider simply using an echo mic instead of trying to install a board in the radio? - Not that I think it's going to help much. Those radios have Low AM Audio and not much you can do to punch it up. Made for Sideband.
I don't know if this helps. Yeah the 955 is pricey. I'll take the newer QT80 over the 60. The 80 has a bit more power, improved features and the 8pin round solid mic plug vs. the 60's modular plug that I don't like at all.
