I was thinking about Cb radios too, but was unsure of the power. We have basically flat Terrain with woods surrounding us. Cell phones would be fine, but having to keep them charged would perhaps be the biggest downfall. Partial problem with out help is that the cell phone goes in the pocket...

How does that look?

With amp out and measuring with a meter, I get 1 on ch 1, 1.5 on ch 20 and 1.5 on ch 40. In line with a wilson 1000 mag mount.

I dont have my meter yet. Im assuming that you can measure reactance and impedance with an ohm meter?

Should I have to cut some off of the end of the metal piece? To lower the swr.

Back again with another question. With my amp (Texas Star dx100) I get a swr of 1.9 on ch 40 And a 2 on ch1. Is this pretty high? Antenna is bottomed out when swr is above 2 on ch 1 and 40.

Has anyone run the refurbished uniden 980's? I don't want to sound too cheap, but just on a budget and I don't want to sink a huge amount in.

Just out of curiosity, would I be able to run the uniden 980 with my Texas Star amp? I was a little confused if there would be too many watts going in, and if the amp did SSb mode.

I was curious of that. How does one know that condition are right for skip?

Don't worry, I could figure it out as I do the same. Hopefully my Wilson shows up soon. I'm getting pretty amped up to try it out and make a few contacts. I can hear a guy from Jamaica yesterday came in really clear. Pretty dang neat.
