This is why i cant find the heart to work on these things. I think it's absolutely amazing that guys are out there keeping all these old amplifiers running, but I will say that it's definitely a labor of love.
Well, im not saying that one way or the other. They tune, they work, they are safe with big watts.

People obsess about the color of their plates in the tubes. There's nothing wrong with the tube getting red it's supposed to. Its when they get white you need to worry
usually when guys lose a tube that diode pops. usually explodes actually. Ive replaced a few myself. that and a new set of tubes fixes most of them.
