    Messy Maco 750 resurrection

As always, @nomadradio is correct. People get hung up with input swr. I agree we should all strive for perfect but any amplifier will pretty much show no difference in power with a perfectly flat input and a 2.0:1 input. The only time this can jam you up is with much bigger boxes. With 4w...

White vinegar or muriatic acid will clean it but the latter is very volatile and must be done quick. Dip the corner and before it fizzes away rinse immediately to stop the reaction

Building a simple Alternator whine / ignition filter

Before doing this, another cheap trick is just try a .01uf or .02uf cap from the alternator output to gnd, usually its case. Ive had this clear up certain whines or buzzes

Ameritron AL80A Has arrived and shes a beast.

The whole nichrome wire thing is largely presented by one particular ham who possesses notoriety in the hobby. W8JI disagrees quite publicly about its merit. I think any conductor that suits the builder, especially in amateur service would likely work adequately. I use solid copper wire or...

Eh... 800-890 per tube is good. Still inside factory specs. Even at 1kw per tube it will last forever

If you see the name "Hollon" on an amplifier, think "nightmare".

Ive seen worse. That box could be made to run quite well with basic things/tune up. I also like that you did a fixed tuned input, that's what I do on the majority of my boxers that are smaller, there's no need for a variable tuned input for a single band box

Unobtanium power switch substitute for the SB220, sorta, kinda.

You know what would really finish this off and make it look very factory? If you could take a thin sheet of rubber or plastic and slot it to be the width of the rocker and then just sticky it in behind the panel. It will close off the gap and look factory. I have a buddy that builds amplifiers...

Who works on Texas Star amps?

Since the demise of the Toshiba everybody has had to figure out how to make junk work. To me, its not worth the hassle and , tbh, very low profit margins, to build a dc box. Ive learned that the hg transistors must be matched well and more than that the circuit must be matched well. Not alot of...
