I would love to do that but I would need detailed step by step instructions,my electronics and rf knowledge are not there yet. it would be a great learning experience though.
Yes i have been googling like crazey for that, I guess it does exist.
So is all that is needed to key the amp is a simple switch to close the circuit? then hit it with the RF?
I'm looking at picking this amp up for a good price. I had another thread askimg for input about it. The issue i cant figure out is how to use my 2950dx with it and keying the amp. Would a simple manual switch into the RCA jack on the back work? I was thinking of making a custom ptt pedal that...
I did open it up already, there were 2 small red to and from the element, the bare wire was in 1 side of them. I'll post a pic when I get home tonight thanks.
When i plug it in, recieve turns off and key up does nothing
What's wierd is i dont see any shielding around any of the wires, the bare braided wire looks like it is black casing on it Down in the cord, yellow has no shielding i can see
Thanks but that other site i listed tells the same info, how do i know what wire is what?
Now this site says green is recieve

This site says white on pin 4. There is no white, but I have a green.i put the green on 4 and not right at all, 1 shield 2 yellow 3 red 4 green.
Maybe I'm confused here, the bare wire is the shield? It looks like its just a bare wire and not shielding...
Ok, I am going to look at and probaly buy this thing tomorrow. I have questions that if anyone can answere i would greatly appreciate it.
-What is involved in retuning the input? I have never used a tube amp before and really dont know much about them.(I did read in the amp, sticky about tunning...
Both i guess, lightning was the main concern, the cable is 6 gage braided copper. 50' long. I left it full length in case i move it higher. Just buried the extra straight out from the tree base into the field. My swr is now perfect on the meter however. What am i supposed to do if its too long...
I found this tube amp on CL. It looks to me home made and well constructed, 3 tubes and 10-60 or 80 meters.
1st if it works on 10 meters will it work on 11?
Second the guy has no tuner to test it with, but said it powers up and had a ham friend go thru it and all looks to be well put together...
So now i need to ground this thing as discussed and highly recomended in another thread i have going. The ground cable will be 35-40' long and I'm not sure exactly the number yet. How will this negatively affect the counter poise of the antenna? Used on 11 meters the ground cable is close to 36'...
Does anyone know what's involved in doing the conversion or better yet someone i can ship to have it done? I read its almost the same thing as the SB 220 model. I might have a shot at picking one up for a reasonably price. And yes it's for 11 meters but in a nice guy on the free bands. I can do...
One more question, if the ground cable/wire is close to a wave length of my operating frequency, will it radiate signal or give me signal loss? After all it will be attached to the radials which are all the same 1/4 wave length, creating a 5 radial going straight down at almost exactly 1 wave...
How many amps of the 100k could possibly go thru the coax? Seems like it would just melt. I usually unhook the coax so equipment is not attached. So what am i saving from lightining?
Right now I'm running no ground on my homebrew 5/8 GP. its about 35 ' up in a pine tree. I do have a small copper pipe driven in to the ground rith outside my window with a wire I attach to the outer connector of coax right at the back of radio for stray RF. Not sure if this actually does...
Im not impressed with testing of it. plus the copper is a bad idea, its too much flex and heavey. I need to find some aluminum tubing, any idea where to get it, Home depot does not have it.
well i wasnt sure what the gap was supposed to be so i took a block of wood and drilled a 5/8" hole in both ends and slid the pipes into that but that broke when it fell down so i machined up a plastic delrin round with 5/8" holes and mounted it like this with around a 1" gap between the ends
Cool, thanks. I made up a prototype moxon out of copper. 1/2" pipe. Testing in the ground about 6 ' up.with moderate dx conditions on am, I had several contacts from here in NY to New Mexico/Arizona/ California.
This thing is extrelt akward and hard to move around and my temporary testing...
