I have done some portable radio work but usually around AC power / and generator. I want to do some QRP work either back packing out in my 4x4 or out on the quad. I don't want to risk running the battery down on the 4x4 or the quad, so i decided to build a small battery box. Now this is not an...
Congrats on the new radio and getting your license. I have been looking at the cobra in the 73' length for a camping antenna . I think i can put it up in the length of my Motor Home in an inverted V. Like to hear how it works for you.
It could be as simple as just more noise on diferent parts of the band. Yesterday i was on 75 meters in a section i'm not normally in and the noise was S1 and i was like YES then scrolled up the band and i had S4 noise :( which still was good LOL.
My first dual band radio was a yaesu FT 8800 a very nice radio but i never seem to use 70cm but i can. i then picked up a FTM-3200DR digital and analog 2m only. The analog version is FTM-3100R good price but seems to be sold out at most venders. The funny thing is you know how a lot of...
i Have the rig-expert AA-30 and it works great but wish i had bought the AA-54. But the 30 does most bands that i usually build antennas for and i have a swr meter that will do 6m, A good SWR meter will get you by for a while the analyzer just makes checking the antenna faster.
I talked with a guy in San Diego the other day he loves his FT-891 and he sounded really good. i almost picked one up but have the 857 so I didn't happy with the 857.
338 I might order one as well the try out with the Motorhome. I already have done pretty well with the Hustler coils mounted tot the top of my ladder on the back. I have made contacts with BJ and his group on 75m with 400 watts and even as low as 100 watts. Now its not as good as my doublet but...
Good to hear the antenna is working for you CK. I have thought of getting to attach to the hitch on my Motorhome after talking with a guy that was doing that on his MH and had a great signal. He didn't use radials just the MH. Keep us updated on it if you would.
I use mine mostly portable so no desk to hide it under but I do turn it away from me. I like the amp but not the fan I may try a variable resistor in line I rarely talk for long periods of time and have never felt it get very warm so far.
Ok I'm pretty new to ham radio compared to all you old timers . I have heard what I think is good audio from all the different brands and bad. I think for the most part it's how that person sets up his or her radio for their voice. As far as dirty signals I a ftdx-3000, ft-857d and never...
Well sort of , I don't remember living on Base but we lived in Turkey, Virginia Beach and then finally Ca. I remember going to the Navy exchange what a great place to shop! He retired in SF and went on to work civil service on Treasure Island. I wish he was around now he would totally be into...
