Thanks to all of you guys for the great answers. I wasn't trying to bash any antenna builders and I don't own any Maco antennas, I just used as a reference. I think the light bulb and flashlight explanation is the easiest way for the average person to look at it. I thought I understood what it...
So I am going to use a Maco M104c as a reference. I know antenna manufactures exaggerate the specifications of their antennas. That being said Maco rates the power multiplication of the m104c as 28x. Now does this mean that if I put 10 watts out of the radio into the antenna is now putting out...
Vk thats very interesting, I would like to see a picture of your antenna now. I would have thought that one would just space the extra director the same or just a little more that the previous one but i'm just learning ( not judging what you did). One thing I didn't mention on my antenna, I saw...
I know this is a old post but i just want to say that Robb's review made up my mind to get the sirio sy27-4 . When i first tried it there was really no skip at all so i was a little let down on the whole deal. I too had a few problems with the install lucky for me the bush my antenna fell in...
Great looking set up. Antenna and tower look great. I'll have to try and throw you a wave one day. I have my Avanti Sigma 5/8 almost ready to put together.
This is one of the parts i have cleaned up already. Once i finish this rebuild it will replace my sirio Tornado which has served me well just not as well built.
bob85,
Thanks for the reply that helps a lot. I'm pretty sure I can fab up those parts now that I know for sure what they are made of. When you say three I assume you are also talking about the one above with the bolt in it that blocks the water. This antenna unfortunately was mounted to a...
Marconi I wish I knew a quarter of what you know about antennas lol I'm just truing to learn but this is way over my head. I'm sure someone will post up that understands this.
Are you checking on channel 1 and 40? What does the inline meter say with just the radio? I prefer using a seperate meter not the radio meter thats just me, if you have a good inline meter i would go by it if you know its good. Placement on the vehicle could make a difference also. Recommended...
I think this picture posted by Master Chief a few years ago it shows the two diferent feed points used on the sigma 5/8 antenna.
Master Chief wrote this in 2006.
"The feedpoints are completely different. A/S added a coil which made the Sigma 5/8 DC grounded for the first time! They also used...
Sounds like a good idea especially at home for a heavy base without guy lines. I have used a aluminum painters extention pole with a A99 on top to take out to a hill and try for contacts.
First picture is the antennas resting place for the last 40 years, second picture whats left of the inner coil system. Hopefully the I posted the pictures right.
I just picked up a Avanti Sigma 2 antenna the other day for taking it down for the old owner. I was wondering how much cleaning and polishing of the aluminum I should do? The basic antenna is in great shape except for the inner coil assembly, the ends just crumbled and the fiberglass section is...
I just acquired one of these antennas. I am trying to rebuild it but the coil ends are in pieces, just wondering if anyone knows where to get this part or ideas on how to make my own. I also need to come up with the fiberglass insulator. I'm a newbie at all this so any help appreciated.
