If you like homebrewing up stuff thats great, I like projects too.
My advice on this is bite the bullet buy the board and install it in the radio. Its cheaper more compact and all the handy ground and power connections youll need are right there inside.
But if the project route is the way...
What kind of mike did you try on this? This royce radio used a different wiring than most other radios.Cobra wont work and a few Midlands will work. Heres the wiring in case anyone needs it.
1. Audio
2.Ground/common
3.Transmit
4.Recieve.
