Hi C2 yes its audibly louder on SSB. Doesnt do it on my 148 gtl or my JCPenny which is also a ssb radio nor my president nor my RCI 2950 non DX. Some one advised to try adjust L8 in this radio clockwise as stated earlier but its best to ask . I don't like poking and twisting Vrs unless I know...

just wanted to comment that when radio goes up to around 27.650 its perfect. Nice and quiet. When it starts going to regular channels and below 26.9650 its noisy. Go figure.
