sorry for not reading this thread. I CAN'T. i despise these discussions. why the fascination with 'exacting accuracy'? remember my 'enoughtogetoutwatts'? right now my raggedy jeep xj has my ic706mk2g in it, with either a predator for 10-11-12, or separate hamsticks for 20 & 40. i...
it's all in the stars.....or really the sun. & sometimes in the clouds in between :)
i've talked to 6 continents on 10m, 11m, 12m, 20m & 40m....70 or 80 watts from an ic706mk2g on a magnet mount antenna-20 or 40m hamstick, or predator on 10, 11 & 12-on my mobile.
at the risk of making this...
absolutely, beam to beam, but i'm not using a beam at the moment. also compare your em62 to my fn30. i've got tall buildings to my west :) very tall buildings, to my north & northwest, a lot of the bigger big guns are obstructed by some hills....the catskills, the berkshires & the adirondacks...
i use 2 ku4ab squalo's stacked at about 28' to the feed with a stock ic746pro. very rarely do i hear any 2m ssb stations NOT using some sort of directional antenna, so i am usually able to get into the 50 mile range fairly easily. larger beams on the other end have netted me closer to 120...
really? the AM sections of the grant & jackson are different. the best way to improve AM performance of a jackson was to buy a grant ;) the best way to improve AM performance of a grant was to add a dx500 ;)
hmmmm.....now getting 30 watts out of a radio that was doing 22.....that really woke up the whole neighborhood ;)
you guys all saw the difference on your s-meters, right?
:)
no no, not at all. taking into account the 'ports' portion of your post, you may very well be 50% correct.
of course he wasn't asking about (marine/maritime) ports ;)
marine band IS vhf fm. i'm too far east of NYC to hear those ports, but know the local fuel ports use FM, & have been told some have SSB capabilities, though not sure if they use SSB locally, or only when in open waters.
thats not 2 way communications though. the pilot isn't communicating with a beacon. he's just listening, to make sure he's landing on a runway & not a highway.
masterpatfx posted-'Today I went to the airport, but there was no difference (or maybe a VERY slight difference, which makes the...
Mobile again this morning. A couple 'blue water' big guns on 27.025, 20m & 12m totally DEAD. 1 heavy qsb contact to j67zf on 10m, otherwise dead there too.
Yup. Here in the northeast its been quiet everywhere, even as low as 40m has been dead much of the time.
While i have heard absolutely nothing on 10 in days, did make a dozen mobile contacts this morning on 12m-italy, belgium, germany, azores & cape verde. What shows promise is that was on...
Nice. I was never actually able to get 100 watts out of a 60 watt transistor with 22 volts. Always went up in flames long before the meter got anywhere near 100w. But that's just me i guess ;)
Really? 'Used to drive a REALLY big tube linear'?? wow. My really big tube linear needed a LOT more then a mod v to move it. Heck, the the driver used a driver....back in the day. A mod v aint even getting everything from a dx1600. & 120 watts peak from a single 2290? Nice, but i doubt...
