It takes a lot of tuning to get more watts. I have one that does a clean perfect linear 60+ watts on a Bird pep meter. I built the radio 10 years ago. However I notice more watts out of my single final radios driving the same amps...... Not worth the time, in my opinion.....

I have a 503, ok little amp. 100 watts is fine. I have found for a stock radio (4 watt carrier) you want the power setting on 6. Otherwise your carrier will be too high (too much drive)

Bird has its place. I have Bird and Diawia. If you have a mismatch on your antenna the numbers cannot be trusted with the Diawia or any SWR meter really. Dont believe me, raise your reflect and watch your wattage output change. The worse the match the less accurate the meter is. Bird is more...

With AC there is always the possibility of a small about current on the neutral/ground.

Not as accurate as a bird when you're dealing with high reflect, they are well built and I dont have to change slugs.

The 455khz filter has nothing to do with SSB.

I have seen one first hand, all I can say is that they are well built. A 5/8 wave will preform like any other 5/8 wave.
