Thats whats nice about mosfet is can be a little high and still be ok. You can check the current if they are not drawing too much it probably wont run too hot.
Dont worry about it, its normal. I have blisters from my Galaxys. They have been abused for over 10 years now no failures.
If you're worried about it you can "volt" the final. That will take the load off that transistor.
Whats your location? If you live near the coast you can also experience Tropospheric Ducting. Most of the data is for VHF/UHF. I have always thought "Tropospheric" conditions play a role in some evening time north south skip we get on the west coast.
I have a stock RCI 2995DX (minus frequency mod) No issues just like new other than a few light scratches (mostly on the back) comes with stock RCI mic with the channel buttons. $550 shipped and insured.
It all depends on what they do, the actual swing kit doesn't have any affect on SSB. Most of the poor SSB issues come from modifying other things like the mod limiter (AMC)....ect The last radio I helped a friend with was a Galaxy 98vhp, I used a diode and resister. lower the resistance till...
If the swing kit is setup using a scope they are fine on most "export style" radios, they dont really make you radio louder. If you want more power just buy a amp.
Low dipoles have nice big lobs that come off them. That makes them really usable under almost all conditions (minus super long dx) End fed antennas can be tricky. I would use a combination of ideas from above. (not following what your trying to do) I would run a dipole with as much wire as you...
I remember you gave stick man my number, gawd he was a fun guy to talk too! I talked to him after he got sick and he was still in good spirits, will definitely miss him!
I Like your enthusiasms LeapFrog, you want to learn and soak it all in. Not all people are like you, I agree with 711 most want to take the shortcut and not put in the needed hard work. With that said I would love to see more radio kits like radio shack and Heathkit did back in the day!
Ugggg I just did yard work all day today. I should post a Youtube video of me tapping on my volted Ryobi hedge trimmer while talking about how great I am!!!!
Ha just kidding used my Stihl chainsaw as a hedge trimmer!
I dont have squat under a 100hz but I sure can hit %150+ modulation with just my voice and some careful mic phasing. I want to say 68* out of phase is where mine is set.
Its fine if it gets warm or even hot. I have dual IRF520's in my 959 and it will burn you. Been like that for 8 years or so.
You could always "volt" the finals to take the current load off.
I lost my CR-577 somewhere and now im kicking myself in the butt. I never found it assumed that would be a mic you would be able to buy forever!
I once hooked it to my rack gear an was really surprised on how nice it sounded!
As far as I understand most mosfets are rated as switches. There rise and fall times make them work in an RF environment. Even at 13.8 volts you can still bias them into saturation. I volted some IFR520's to 30 volts I really didn't see any significant amount of gain. They are also not as...
When unhacking radios, I do a visual write down all I can see. Then I google as many mods as I can find. Check the factory schematic vs the said googled mods vs the radio. Try to correct as many of those "online techs mods" that you can find. Then I do a full factory alignment, If you cannot...
