Good to know!
My comments were purly observational non scientific.
None of mine have been calibrated probaly never will. For hobbyist it's the close enough, don't need super accurate just reliable and consistent.
The only thing I have noticed different between the two mods is installing the diode at the resistor R238 has slightly flatter frequency response. (A non issue really)
The diode installed in the two different locations has the same effect, all it does is raise the carrier at an audio rate to...
+1 For the Diawa meters. I own one and it works great. Spot on with compared to a bird 43. I also modded mine for a scope pickup, there shielded box inside make for a nice clean signal.
So you can volt the final with either mod so that doesn't matter. 1N914 or 1N4148 diode dont make any difference being fast switching, your only dealing with audio frequency's nothing higher.
So do this for me, volt the final (since you do it anyways on the NPC) Then install the 1N4001 (or...
Well ya if its setup wrong, you can have a nice clean signal with a galaxy and swing kit. Thats why I asked about a scope. Swing kit/NPC whatever same crap.
I heard about people using ones that swept all 40 channels really quick so it seemed like all 40 was locked down. Im sure there is something out there that could be had for cheap now. (that was years ago)
You can run class c but to do it without creating much distortion it needs to be ran a lot lower then the rated watts of the transistors. I have got some class C stuff to produce a nice clean signal but there was some trickery involved.
Back in the main topic those Mauldulators work well with...
Is not HiFi because of the quality, HiFi works with AM, FM and SSB just fine. CB radios dont have filtering so they can transmit really wide without being wide banded. Hard telling what the neighbor is actually doing but given a stock radio with a mod limiter cut he would probably still bleed...
He's a super nice guy, I like him because hes a fairly modest tech.
Last I heard he was really sick and getting behind on radio work. https://www.youtube.com/user/Dropmaul99 Get some popcorn hes long winded.... lol
You dont want compression then, you want hard brick wall limiters. My final limiter I run .01ms - .1ms on the attack, You want just low enough to catch your highs and over shoots. My release is about 50ms - 100ms. 100ms being pretty transparent and 50ms you can start hearing the effect on your...
