Imagine how that antenna will look after hitting a few low hanging limbs?
Maybe the person building it ran out of whips that were long enough and just used pieces he had laying around?
When it is properly tuned the tuning caps should be approx half meshed. Move the tap to the 10 meter position...........it should load out on 11 meters there. You can fine tune the tap after you determine the amp is ok to get the proper dips on the tuners.
RF getting into the audio. One thing I have seen work sometimes it to run a ground wire from the radio to the microphone. I know it already has one in the cord but try it. Check the chassis grounds as when the cover is on it places a different stress on the board when it is tightened up.
The 99V should not need an amplified mike. This is what is generating the squeal. You can "dehorn" the mike (bypass the amp in it which works great) or pad the talkback down. Installing a relay talkback circuit will let you fine tune it to where you want.
If you want to use the amplified...
Hmm, TR53 is the AMC amp, why did you remove it? Remove TR32 which is the AMC shunt will disable any audio limiting. With the echo board having problems and being replaced I would look to grounding issues in the radio for the squealing. Sounds like some are missing or not making good...
Move the power and mike gain controls while talking to see if they are causing the problem. If they were extremely dirty they might need replacing. A bad alignment can cause problems like this also.
Drop the High power dead key to not over 5 watts. Then set the low power dead key for nothing lower than 1 1/2 watts. Also check and make sure the antenna connector is tight and you are not able to move it. Too high of a key on a single final radio will drop your audio.
I just listened to the clip. It did kinda sound like a fat girl breaking wind didn't it? On one of the noise toy CD's I have it does have a Browning squeal. Sounds more like a R27 S23 than a Mark III or other however.

I remember going into a CB shop in the 70's and he used a Transel meter on the bench. He had it set out to where you could see it without a probelm also. He would show you what your radio did with the meter set to average before he tuned it and set to peak after he tuned it. Many times all he...
Stuff like the mike gain turned down can make you pull your hair out. That or either the radio being in the PA mode. But it is part of the learning process. When it becomes a real bad thing is when it happens more than once..............DOH!!!
One of the best ones I remember is on the...
The pot itself might just need a good cleaning. Some contact cleaner can do wonders sometimes for problems such as this. Spray into the opening of the control while turning it from stop to stop. Hopefully this will fix your problem.

Hey Mr Clean, I wonder where we can get these "feel good" meters at? There would be a good market for folks that like to watch that "SWANG" on the needle.
It reminds me of years ago a CB'er was using a Dosy meter. He had a JB12 and was driving it into a Varmint XL 75 mobile amp on a power...
I just checked and a Royce 1-624 has a 4.7 ohm resistor from the + side of the speaker to the External speaker jack. Don't know if the 1-625 is the same or not. I'll dig a SAMS out and check later on.
