I've heard it said over the years that MRF 454's are a true side band transistor .........Can someone explain to me why this is ? ........are they any truer then the Toshiba's or any other transistors along those lines ? Is there something that makes the MRF 454's special when it comes to SSB...
Great price with adaptor and shipping ! Same board as the Stryker 955 ..........The new noise reduction on these put my Quad 6 in the backseat ! Wish this deal was around 2 months ago. Hands down a great deal on this one.
I did go over the caps and they all looked like they were correct . Failing audio chip ? interesting , this radio has the UPC 1182H ? It basically sounds like it's trying to receive when turned on (white noise) you can get above that noise with turning the volume up , it tends to knock out the...
I honestly do not know ? The power is good , alignment and transmit is good ........on the dummy load you can't even rf gain or squelch the noise out , (although you can hear them working , just not taking the noise out) it's always there and the weird part is you can kind of hear a snap...
This radio has been recapped , the power off the dual 1969 transistors is great and the alignment is right on the money . The problem is when you turn the radio on you hear static coming in with the volume turned all the way down with or without antenna or dummy load connected ? As you turn the...
Yeah , I know ! Just another old thread like me ..........I always thought over the decades that the Uniden Grant DX Classic was a ultimate CB Radio , I always thought AM/SSB/FM worked great ! Dual finals , 40 extra channels down and 40 up ! I don't think I could have asked for much more then...
First and foremost , thank you all for chiming in on this one . OT03 , pots are all cleaned and C79 and C81 are good . Shade Tree , C47 and C67 are good and no cracks . Nomad and Super Lid , I was truly hoping it was the pot but it checked out 0 to 10K OK .(10K pot) TM86 , VR7 AM audio was up...
Can't seem to turn the audio down on this one ? in other words , you only need to just crack the mic gain control on AM or SSB using a stock mic ? I really don't know , VR6 doesn't look like it was ever in this radio and there seems to be a jumper across where it would have been . As far as I...
37 years of just plane old 'plug and play" antenna , coax and SWR meters , always doing my best for getting under 1.5 around the 11 meter band . Bottom line here is this ...........I just didn't know what I didn't know ......,but by the graces of the powers that be , I never blew up a radio or...
Those are really solid IC controlled channel boards , used to put those in PC 122 type radios . (as your list says) Where did you find those ? Never put one in a AM only radio. Good luck .
I think those electret elements sound damned good ? I believe they have been around for many decades ? Sadeltas , Extremes , echo type mics right ? So I could do this mod to a 148/Grant like the cobra 2000 ? just 8 volt source going through a 4.7k resistor to the audio pin inside the radio ...
I'm thinking another oldie but goodie ? Face place and switch was caved in and damaged in shipping , was able to change the switch and bend things around and get it going. Was told sounded good on SSB (AB?) and AM ..........single mosfet driven Grant LT , 1 to 20 on AM and 20 on SSB . (no clips)...
The 1000pf worked just fine ! I did get some good swing back on the amp and SWR held strong ! Even put the AM/SSB delay mod back together with no problems that I can see (really holds the power and relay on the high side on SSB and hitting the switch on AM keeps the relays right) Hoping this...
Well Doc Audio , you called it as the schematic called for , it fixed the SWR on the high side of the amp. Although looks like I lost about 70 talking watts also ? So appranetly the 500pf worked in these boxes until they got to hot and lost there value , so back in the days , I'm guessing this...
Thank you guys again ! I'm feeling it ! I had to order the caps on line ! Damn it ! I remember the days when we had electronic parts stores and even Radio Shack back in the days could have helpful parts in there stores from time to time. I'll let you guys know how things work out next week ...
Much thanks Doc , Your right ! it did drop after modulating ! this surely gives me something to go on ,are you talking about C-16 ? it's 120pf . Thanks again ! Switch
Swr this and that fine and dandy , still have the same problem I have been addressing . Something is obviously out of wack in the tuning section ? , looks like I'm on my own from here ? Much thanks as always for any input that came my way on this one . Thanks much. Switch
Thank you for clearing that up for me on the SWR , now if I could just figure out how to fix my problem because it would be nice to use the high side of the amplifier. Thanks
