He's been trying to sell that Simba for a few years now... That particular seller has a history of coming up with NOS items... I wouldn't mind having that Simba but not for what he wants for it...
That statement was based on personal experience with the IMAX.
I'm out in the middle of the Mohave desert and have had two IMAXs. The first one lasted about a year and was wiped out when a microburst that had 90+ MPH winds hit my area.
The second one is still up but a recent inspection had...
Gotta join the chorus of people who have never had any problem assembling an I-2000. Perhaps yours had a manufacturing defect?
FWIW you will probably be replacing that antenna in a couple of years anyhow. IME Imaxs tend to deteriorate rapidly out in the sun or at least they do out here in the...
Was not referring to tuning up on amateur frequencies, just on CB.
On CB I try to stay on the in-between frequencies (such as 27.195 or .145) or at least on the 'zeros' instead of the 'fives'
Always good practice to tune around the desired frequency to make sure that no one else is there...
I use DL's for tuning up for two reasons:
1) It provides a known constant load, and
2) It doesn't tie up the frequency.
People who tune up on center frequency have always been a pet peeve of mine. I mean c'mon: If you truly lack the funds to buy or the wherewithal to build your own DL, at...
True, but I've seen a lot of 11m gear at hamfests. Amplifiers are a common item. I've seen a lot of FT101s too. You might get lucky and find an unmolested HR 2510.
Hamfests are a crapshoot, but can be a lot of fun too..
FWIW,October 23 & 24 the Mohave County (AZ) Amateur radio club will be...
It should work all right. I'm sure the mass of the metal that is the shed will provide an adequate counterpoise. At that power level there really isn't much to worry about.
Where in South Florida is he supposed to be? I'm in South Florida and I have never heard him.
He didn't say exactly where in S. Florida. Would love to see the station sometime though!
Has anyone ever heard this station? I've heard it before but it's been a while. On Wednesday I was playing around with a Pearce-Simpson Bengal that has recently come into my possession and tuning around the dial I landed on channel 11.
Those of you that have heard him know of what I speak...
You pretty much answered your own question. A modulator will not increase the resting carrier any but it will well - MODULATE the carrier. Gives a LOT more swing. Often they are used ahead of amplifiers.
An amplifier amplifies. A modulator modulates. Can an amplifier work as a modulator...
One of the great myths of the D&A Phantom is that it is a 1,000 watt amp. No, it isn't. Going by D&As own information the triple-stage Phantom was rated at 1375 watts INPUT. Assuming 60% efficiency this should give an output of around 850 watts max.
Will they do 1,000? It can sure look...
That's one of the cleanest Phantoms I've seen in some time. Looking at the tank coil it is much smaller than the one on the band switch- equipped Phantoms. Like all Phantoms the tube right behind the final load control is too close to the capacitor. It needs to be inserted at a slight angle...
Odd. I assume that it does not the the 'BTL' option- that was a very poorly designed receive preamp that more often than not didn't work- even when new.
The 'VFO' label (most versions said ' Input') is telling. It's another feature found on the so-called 'amateur transmitters' along with the...
Interesting item. When I saw the crystal slot on the front end I thought it was one of the later Phantoms that D&A tried to pass off as a 15 meter amateur transmitter but as I recall those carried the PDX prefix in the name. It appears to be some type of hybrid between the the two. Perhaps a...
Seriously? If it sells at this price I want to meet the fool who bought it.

Amateur HF radios aren't really designed for AM operation. I'm pretty sure the only reason they even have an AM mode is to listen to broadcasts in the GC portion of the receiver.
If you absolutely MUST run an HF rig on AM make sure to keep the carrier WAY down.
Better to keep an HF rig for...
When you tune the amp you tune it for frequency, not mode. Leaving it overcoupled for SSB won't hurt it in any way.
When I tune my Phantom I overcouple it and just leave it there regardless of mode.
