    What is this worth?

Yep, that's a D&A T-600. Basically it was one of the final versions of the Phantom. As D&A amps go they are somewhat of a rarity but as to what it's worth - well, something is worth what another person will pay for it. It looks to be in good physical condition so that's a plus but the...

    Need info on some radios

Somewhere there is a person who needs a part for the radios that you have. My advice is to post them on ebay as a lot and see what you reel in - you may be surprised. Individually they aren't worth much, unless you find a collector who needs one of your radios to complete a collection-...

Anyone use channel 16 SSB anymore?

Back then SSB radios were quite pricey and only the serious operators had them. In most places there simply weren't enough people using SSB to justify using any additional channels. Remember, back in the old 23 channel days, with Ch 9 reserved for emergencies, 15, 17 and 19 being used by...

Comparisons, any info would be awesome

I've a friend who has two or three 146s. Damn things are rock steady on SSB. They simply do NOT drift. With a decent mic on them and a good tuning they can and do sound great. I always did like the 138 XLR and have had several through the years. Any of the XLR series really. I run a 29...

Anyone use channel 16 SSB anymore?

A few of us still use 16 LSB around here sometimes just for fun. 38 LSB has basically turned into another version of Ch. 6 AM so it's hard to have a decent QSO there. I always did like 27.145 (15 A). It was the first place I went when I got a slider installed in my old TRC-47. To this day I...

    Hurry while supplies last.

Rat Shack always was proud of their stuff. My first-ever rig was a TRC 30 (NOT a 30A) that went for 159.95. Adding in 12.95 for the 1/4 wave antenna and a few more bucks for coax, connectors and taxes, it took an entire summer of paper routes to save up for it.

    10 tube D&A Phantom watts

I've a 10 tube tan Phantom that Alan rebuilt for me to use 24lq6 tubes. I heartily recommend his services. Yes, those amps will do 1,000 + if you drive the snot out of them. But not for very long and it won't sound good. Probably splatter all over the band as well. Put it on a scope and look...

    Get this before it's gone!

The pricing may reflect the sellers plan to offset the 'ebay tax'. Everything on ebay costs about 40% more than it should because by the time ebay and PayPal get done taking out all the damn fees about 40% of any profit is gone. So like any business that is faced with increased costs it is...

    CB License

Real old-timers will recall how the license used to cost $25. Then it dropped to $5, then it was free and finally the license requirement was done away with completely. It ain't been the same since.

    Neat md or ruined classic?

This isn't the first time this seller has done something like this. A previous effort didn't have any digital readout and had a lot of unused knobs. Basically he took a 148 board and stuck it in the Tram case. I can only hope that he didn't destroy a working -or repairable- Tram to make...

Just picked up a 12 tube phantom

Not to open up a can of worms but.... ..I've always been curious as to how it's possible to get that kind of power out on 120 V and with tubes rated for around 30 w dissipation. Maybe you have a very happy meter? As for the output problem, after you discharge the caps so the thing...

Best radio for Mini Van's Power Outlet

Typically the power outlet / cigarette lighter will have a 20 amp fuse, so you could run any radio or radio/ amp combo that draws less total current than that. Most barefoot radios pull less than 3 amps on transmit and next to nothing on receive. A 100-watt radio will pull around 10 amps or...

    palomar skipper 300 help

This is gonna sound dumb but.... ... are you sure you have it in the 'operate' position and not 'standby'? Here is great article on how to tune a tube amp : http://www.worldwidedx.com/amplifiers/26225-how-tune-tube-amp.html Be careful with those 8950s. They are very pricey to replace.

    Why?

As I recall it was kind of expected that most if not all 23 channel radios would have hit the junk pile by a certain date, probably 1987 or something like that. I don't think anyone thought that there would be so many of them still around.

Just picked up a EFJ Messenger 223

My very first SSB rig was a TRC 47. Every review I have ever read of them said to avoid it so of course I had to have one. It really wasn't a bad radio for what it was. As I recall, a couple of 10 microhenry RF chokes soldered into the clarifier leads would give about a 12 kc slide.
