    AX.25

The AX.25 specification itself, for the data format transmitted can be found at tapr.org As for the hardware or software design to do the demodulation of the audio signal, I believe they have books they sell describing that. A better bet may be the open source software in linux that deals with...

is the ft-2900 a good rig

Range has so many variables...very hard to answer. With a Diamond SG-7900 around typical varied NJ suburban terrain...15-20 miles from my Jeep with 50W to a base with a half way decent roof antenna at 50W. It all depends on elevation above average terrain and if there is anything between you...

    Yaesu FTM-350 APRS Review

Don't ya love responses like that....I always wonder if they didn't ^H^H^H 'stupid' off the end before sending. Gotta love customer service in the modern era. I can't help but wonder if it's an $8/hr office worker that just flipped through a manual doing the answering too. Would anyone...

Gizmotchy 2 Meter 4 Element Beam Review

You're reading the NEC plots correctly, it's a bit more focused than a two element beam or a short quad. Better than not having directional ability, but far from surgical. That has big advantages if you have a group of people or a mobile you are tracking, the wider beam width makes it easier...

    108 WHIP

:thumbup1::thumbup1: I just put my analyzer on both a few weeks back. Spring is 108" and centers on 11m and without centers it on 10m, though the bandwidth is very broad either way. With a good solid mount, no spring is needed either, the whips are nearly indestructible...you have to watch...

    RFI Problem

Feeding a long wire from the shack is always a tricky business as far as RFI. You'll find spots that it is o.k. and bands where it is horrendous. I feed everything I play with via a 1:1 balun that is outside now to help alleviate issues. Short coax run to a heavy duty 1:1 DX Engineering balun...

    Noise-Cancelling Speakers: Who uses them?

These devices do _far_ more than any change in speaker will do. We're not talking removing slight hiss. They will even kill the roar of open squelch FM. NEDSP-1062-KBD Click the links on that page for the audio files demonstrating it. It actually works better than the demo files that BHI...

    Noise-Cancelling Speakers: Who uses them?

The GAP use the BHI DSP, which is the one I highly recommend. So either the BHI ANEM from w4rt.com or the GAP HearIT inline would be the ones. This way you can use whatever speaker you want and plug any source in that you want with a simple audio jumper cable.

    Question about "N" Type Connectors

The man who wrote this is not just a ham, he's an expert in SHF RF design and antenna system design. He used to design and build and sell amps for amateur use and I believe antennas too. Now he's a consultant in the commercial SHF RF market. Definitely not a weekend reader of the antenna...

    Noise-Cancelling Speakers: Who uses them?

I have this. NEDSP-1062-KBD They make it in a few forms, built in circuit, built in for existing speakers, or the external module with an amp circuit in it. I chose mine because I can use it with any radio and any speaker, just plug what I want into it. The example files they have on that...

Question About Using AM mode on HF

There are all too many because it is too easy to just push the "AM" button. The mailing lists for various rigs are loaded with people constantly asking for the service menu keystrokes to get the power up to 100W for AM as well. I like AM mind you...just sayin. 75m in NE region has been loaded...

Question About Using AM mode on HF

Exactly...if you are unable to measure your bandwidth, you certainly are incapable of measuring the quality of your signal...which you are responsible for, no matter what the FCC wording is. The new wording only means you are responsible for your signal even more than before. The attitude that...
