    Galaxy DX 95T2 - Help!

O.k. so I have to ask.... If the radio has that much input gain, why would you want to use a power mic? Also, you could always change the value of the pot in the power mic so it attenuates the level in a more useful way at the lower settings. Or put a resistor in.

    New Jetstream 220 Mobile

Something I spotted today, a Wouxun that is a 2m/220 handheld...the same model in 2m/440, a few friends bought and tested on a service monitor...comes up whistle clean and they sound great on the air. Very nice audio. 1x KG-UVD1P 136-174 / 216-280MHz +4-004K - Radioshop 888 KG-UVD1P VX-8R...

    New Jetstream 220 Mobile

This month's QST has a review. Looks like it was made fairly well from what they had to say about it. I like that it has a plain 8-pin mic jack....I've grown to really dislike the modular plugs...they just don't hold up well to the tugging of mobile installs. I'll likely get something for...

Anyone Try One Of These? "Bandwidth Enhancers"

That's a capacitance hat...if it's really electrically connected to the radiator. Makes an antenna look electrically longer. This will stretch it to lower frequencies but blow the match on the frequency it is designed for. The reason the match stays the same is the resistor/match in the...

    New to the 10m/CB world....

Export radios are more about the extended 'channels' than the power. The power is higher, but really the difference isn't that huge. The main issue about drawing attention is a dirty signal and/or operating out of the band you are authorized for. You could put out a clean kW signal on legal...

Talked to WalMart Today on a HT?

You were correct in premise. Also you were correct in not trying to discuss the nuances of radio technology and licensing with a cop heh. They mostly have no clue.

What have you done in/on ham radio this week?

Fixed a 440 repeater this weekend. Pulled a PA module out of line and rewired for low drive feed directly into the final PA. Discovered a blown up GAsFET and a poorly soldered shielded cable from a SAME alert weather station that were dragging in a paging system. Learned a lot...it's a new...

    Where are you buying parts????

First stop allelectronics.com they are odd-lot so you don't know what they'll have. RF Parts for PA parts and RF connectors Mouser.com to price compare with RF Parts at times and for specific components that allelectronics.com didn't have in stock. All three have been consistent and reliable...

Still very seriously considering a Flex-3000

For TX and RX bandwidth, the software IS the filters in that regard. That's the wonder of it. You see a signal that is interfering, you can literally click and drag either the top or bottom edge of the passband on the screen and just eliminate it. No fixed filters that may not quite get...

Shure 522 Mic Wiring to Cobra radio?

It's not the type of mic, it's the frequency response of the element that is key, then matching the impedance of the mic to the input of the radio. Dynamic are my favorite because they aren't as sensitive so you don't drag in as much background noise on the signal. Wider response from a...

Still very seriously considering a Flex-3000

These all require a host PC. The 1500 and 3000 use a USB connection, the 5000 uses a firewire and the old SDR-1000 needs an external sound card on the computer, line in/out to the sound card and a parallel port for control. The PC does all the modulation and demodulation of the signal in...

Still very seriously considering a Flex-3000

The 1500 is a QRP radio, 5W or less output, may even be 1W, not sure off the top of my head. It's made primarily to use as an IF section for transverter use or for SWL . I would recommend you buy the 3000 or some other 100W rig to get started. Gives you a much more effective signal and better...

What have you done in/on ham radio this week?

The elevation of the repeaters on the ridges out in the desert can do amazing things for an HT. While out in NV on vacation in Vegas, I was shocked at what a 7k ft 440 repeater can do on 300mW from an HT heh. Only airplanes are that high in NJ.

Shure 522 Mic Wiring to Cobra radio?

If you want a screamer for CB audio, the 526T is the one. It has rolled off audio response and an amp in the base. They key for enough output is to be in just the right spot with the 522...it's a narrow spot. Three fingers width is pretty much right on it...closer and it gets muddy and...

Shure 522 Mic Wiring to Cobra radio?

On AM, this mic will give you really nice, full, natural audio. For CB screamer audio, the 444 or one of their omni pickup models will give you louder harder sound because you can gain them up higher.

Shure 522 Mic Wiring to Cobra radio?

I picked up a pair of these on ebay... They are noise cancelling so with dogs/kids/wives/kitchens near the shack, that is rather excellent. They are a full range mic element, much wider fuller audio than a 444D. They aren't the worlds hottest output, but the quality is very very nice. Take...

Shure 522 Mic Wiring to Cobra radio?

I run it on a Kenwood plug, the wire colors are Red - PTT White - Audio/Mic Black - Audio/Mic Ground Green and Shield I tie together and run to Ground common I don't know 4 pin cobra, but that should help you map it over.
