And never judge your audio with a receiver that is too narrow to hear it all....very common mistake. Some guy with a stock 2.8k rig tells you you dont' have enough bottom end heh, but you are +30db below 100Hz already....he just can't hear it because the rig is too narrow on RX passband to hear...
Outstanding run through...far too many people just fundamentally misunderstand the functions of all the modules.
One thing I would add and emphasize...do *not* drive either piece until there is indicated limiting. They distort, guaranteed.
On the 8-band, when you initially configure it...
If yer going D-Star that's a nice radio.
I was just playing with one of those at a friend's house, has a nice display and dual-receive.
A lot of the sour grapes is due to the cost and overall value delivered. It's a damned expensive setup with all the options.
Yeah..it's a shame. Right about when I poked you in that direction so we could meet up, it started to go down the tubes there. It was a good year+ before that where we had a great time and some decent conversations, but it went down the hole fast.
It was principally one guy that dragged the...
You didn't pay attention...I haven't been much of a cheerleader for his net either...not in the state its been in lately.
The detractors mentioned though...they don't have logical arguments. They are typically people who just enjoy disrupting the bands.
There's blame on both sides, but the...
Trimmed this post because of a lot of pot stirring that has resulted.
Basically 3.814 is not a group I particularly care for and don't participate there now. Make your own decisions ;-)
Yeah last night was 3.843 if you checked then. I like the net a lot for what it's trying to do, but with all the jamming that tends to concentrate there and sometimes the level of the participants, I have to be in the right mood to join.
When the host loses his temper and taunts the...
Yeah it's 3.872 and moves occasionally due to intentional QRM.
If you like the net, join the yahoo group as the frequency changes are generally emailed out around net start time at 9pm.
Thursdays are on 1988 on 160m but with very sparse turnout.
I think that's the Woodstock NY KQ2H machine. It's commonly open to FL when 10 opens. 28.660 would be WB2HWW machine in Queens, though it doesn't run nearly as much power as the 1500W of the KQ2H 10m machine.
It's not the radios, it's the portable/fluid nature of the equipment and operators.
Townships don't tend to invest in portable fault tolerant systems. Though post 9/11, a bunch of DHS money has gone into portable repeater trailers with powered extension towers on them.
The trouble is, in the...
They just put the control of their entire system in the hands of a few guys...the source code to Winlink is closed.
It has no place in amateur radio for emergency use as a result.
The whims of a few guys could take a Winlink infrastructure offline in an instant. If they didn't go along with...
The Tundra actually has a white paper floating around outlining all that Toyota did to reduce RFI for radio purposes...allegedly it's one of the quietest RFI cars for ham use there is. It wouldn't surprise me if they paid some attention with the Tacoma as well.
The scariest posts there have been removed because the morons who published them have sued to have them taken down.
There are whackers that do videos with full soundtrack edits etc of them pulling over cars. Wearing fake raid jackets with ridiculous things like CAP and Red Cross on the back of...
Have you looked into local clubs yet? Check this link out.
http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/club/clubsearch.phtml?zip=95014&selzip=Show+clubs+near+ZIP+location&dist=20
If this link doesn't work, go to arrl.org, at the top of the page is a link to 'clubs' and punch in your zipcode. You have a...
Doc, get the FT-Basic software...makes it a snap! Between that and the FT Commander software, I have one file that I update and then punch in to my other radios. My FT-857, VX7 and 7800 all have the same layout basically.

I just use minicom in linux or hyper-terminal in Windows.
So few people ever bother with file transfers that having any of the 'packet software' doesn't really save you much of anything.
For emcomm use and even for general BBS mail use, I really like Outpost a lot.
