Forget About Coax as an antenna OK.
Coax is a Unbalanced Line, and is usually used as a feed line.
The antenna in its self will be Wire of some guage 12,14,16 ect..
and can be used with or without...
OK, let me assume that you will consider buying a antenna ?
If so, then the Cobra Ultra Lite Jr. looks good to me. Read Reviews on eham. Cobra UltraLite Antennas - The Alternative Multi-Band Solution - Home Page
If not then you can build your own. :) It looks as if the mounting bracket...

I changed it from TS 200 and TS 230 to AT 200 and AT 230....
Both are manual tuners and BTW are not true peak reading meters on them, also
the 200 has no lighting on the meters.
TS = Transceivers
AT=...

I kinda thought that was the case or something sorta kinda not much to speak.
D**n, reading to many of Doc`s post :) got me doing that.... Geezzzz
BTW I did edit post to reflect what I was asking about ...
Would like to know the what is different between the AT200 @ AT230 operation wise ?
I know the 200 was made for the TS420 @ 230 for TS530, TS830 ect.
Seems a AT-200 can be bought for much less ?? This might be one for you Doc.
Thanks for any information.

For Joy, For Joy
It wasnt the TV after all, which means I dont have to wait till end of November
to do 40 @ 80 meters.
Being off of work today and its way to hot to be outside, that Old TV caught my
eye again and after a couple cups of java, I said to myself that I can solve
this thing...
I found this to be a Good Read and excellent Reference Material on Antennas.
A great source for those that can do without someone showing off their advanced
math skills :)
I suggest that you not try and read it all at once as it is 78 pages long.

Well Doc, things looking up, how is that you ask ?
Found the demon lurking in the so called great room, No I am not speaking of

The one air choke at the antenna end is doing its job, I never...

We came to the water hole, Yet we do not drink of this tainted water..

The choke is at the antenna end, wound appx. 5 1/2 inch I.D. using RG8X.
I left about 20 to 24 inch length to hang it under the 4 to 1 balun using
a messenger line at that junction.
Feedline to start with is...
Doc, I typed a nice long reply with a little humor and then the router went on Blink
just as I hit the send button, spittttttt makes me so mad when that happens.
So recycled it and all that good stuff , So I will keep this short !!
Do you think I should wind choke for transmitter end the...
OK this is what has happen so far, I wanted to see if a air wound choke made
any difference.
A quick look in the cabinet of Stuff :) found a 18ft. length of RG8 ready made
and wound 10 turns on a flower pot just a bit of a taper in it and figured that that
would at least let me know if any...
OK let us try this First of all, a 3ft tri-pod Will Not align with any roof rafters
so a plate should be made and used if you can reach the under side of the roof for
each leg on the tri-pod.
Not knowing what kind of mast makes it kinda up to you finding guy rings for it.
Master Chief...
Some things would need to know like height of tripod ? Is it a 3ft. 6ft. and does it
have three or four legs.
You say you are up 30ft. now, Is that from top of the roof already ?
A small antenna like which one and what are your plans.
If you are 30ft. from rooftop now and a 3ft. tripod...
Got the antenna moved a bit east, more towards the center of the house
where peak of the roof is higher.
Good 15ft above the roof and also used a messenger line to support the
balun and less srain on the wire overall...
Darn good job if I do say so myself :) and the numbers look good...
OK, how about a Line Isolator used with a Wire Antenna say like a OCF Dipole.
The ARRL handbook 19th edition on chapter @ page 7-7 states that the currents
flowing in the wires will not be equal (This also means that antenna current can
flow on the feeder- on the outside of the coaxial...
Sorry to be so long in reply, so much going on and the answer is Yes to Sat. and
over the air antenna, but is a non issue at the moment as a storm tested the
short side and it came loose at the end guyed to a tree. I took it all the way down
and will relocate it.
I believe it was because...
Finally found some room to put up a Wire Antenna, at 35ft. on both ends,
using a 4 to 1 current balun on a 80 meter OCF dipole and using 100ft. RG8X.
Problem is that it goes across the house on the west end at a low point on
the roof which is about 20ft. so that makes it clear the roof with...
