So few people run any real power on 2m, you'll basically have people well out of your range of hearing trying to get back to you.
Even running 50W with a beam, you can have that same effect...talking farther than most can get back to you.
Talking local or tropo of course. EME is a whole other...
It's not a matter of laziness in a group, it's the matter of break-in. So that you unkey between words. Makes things faster moving and lets you hear if someone else is talking or commenting.
Correct settings are a matter of the gain to trip it and having the delay fast enough to let go on...
VOX can actually help prevent that. Generally it's when people are using PTT that they tend to key on top of each other. The trouble with VOX is you have to have it adjusted just right and have to have a quiet shack.
With my setup, the lag of relays makes using VOX tricky and my shack is in...
NY metro area is littered on 10m with people running export radios and pretty much acting like they are still on 11m.
You hear all sorts of nonsense.
Electronics theory myths
Stupid slang language QSL QSL? That's eh-rogha there, rog-o QSL?
Completely blown out and overdriven audio with guys...
Most don't have the filter width to pass the audio, that's the main reason. Have to add the optional AM filters and even most of those are just 8kHz so that's a 4kHz audio pass band...which certainly sounds decent, but not like the ridiculous 20kHz that the transformer modulated setups a lot of...
Ameritron fully supports those amps too and has all the parts needed if you get one that is DOA. Worst case, if you can't fix it by calling them and troubleshooting it yourself, you can send it in to them for repair.
Best bet on a used amp is to buy from someone you know or are referred to by...
This is exactly right. The broad bandwidth comes from the matching method used and in all cases will indicate a loss in efficiency.
A larger diameter radiator will increase the bandwidth of say a 2:1 range, but it will only change it very slightly unless you are talking about a 3 foot diameter...
I'd recommend springing for the 269 if you do go the MFJ route, it's nice to have the 440 in it even if it has more limited features for that band.
Your budget won't permit it, but the only thing that would be better is an actual VNA, computer based analyzer that sweeps and also plots out in...
The radio isn't a problem, though you will likely find you drift all over compared to using an HF rig. A ham can modify whatever they like for use on amateur bands as long as it meets the requirements for signal purity.
The amp is a problem though....you could at most use that for FM repeaters...
If you really want a proper SSB processor that is powerful, the Ten-Tec RF processor box really works. I'm assuming you know not to use a processor for AM, it ruins the sound quality.
The Ten-Tec unit is a true RF based processing circuit.

Another favorite of mine..."Throw that ALC cable away...no doggone ALC ever did nuthing for me and my radio. Nothing has caught fire here, you don't need it."
Lot of wives tales and misinformation out there and almost as many dirty signals.
So you totally misunderstand all the controller circuitry they have in them and the cost of all the filter networks. Many people do.
Start adding up all the components to do that properly and you'll understand the cost too.
They are needed and that is why they are expensive.
If Ameritron...
IMO, drill holes in your toolbox for the mount and for ground straps.
Ground connections matter a LOT for HF mobile.
It's only a tool box so when you sell it, simply take a short stainless bolt and fill the holes that way. Nobody would care about that, they wouldn't even be noticed.
102"...
The only really good band scopes are SDR, as in Flex radio and I'm not sure if they do 11m or not. I think you would have to hack the software to make that go. Maybe the SDR-1000 would do it.
The Icom Pro 3, be careful with 11m, check with people. As I understood it they do not do 11m well...
Is the processor in your 440 broken? The Kenwood factory processor is already very heavy handed and will easily distort and splatter your signal as it is.
Not sure what you would gain from adding something else.
The company that made the one sitting on my desk with the power turned on and an antenna connected to it ;-).
There is no way to say that covering all the rigs out there. There are good and bad models in each of their lineups and they all have strengths and weaknesses of their own for...
If it was 3.810...I wouldn't follow tech advice learned there unless you did a lot of work on your own to find out why it was bad advice before following it ;-).
Those guys frequently run trash setups with CB amps and many have some of the dirtiest signals I've seen on the band.
I can see them...
857-D in my Jeep
I have an 05 Wrangler and have had an 857-D in it for a couple years now. Here's some of the reasons I got it.
Remote face plate. Radio body mounts right under the driver's seat with the control plate on my dash on a bracket I made. This allows for easy view and...
