I had great luck with a horizontal dipole. Mine was built on a PVC frame and I could rotate it. All of it was diy. Granted much of my luck was due to propagation but I talked all over on very little power. (Canada, CA, AZ, GA, and many more including my favorite.... Australia to another forum...

I was talking to him today and asked how rusty it was. That's when he told me it is galvanized and I changed my mind. Now we are planning for a break in the weather to take it down. He has the guy wires and all. It will sit in storage until we move south and buy a house.

I just found out it's a galvanized tower. Going to take it down this weekend. it might sit in storage for a while but it's worth it.

As long as your swr is good in am or fm, you're good to go.

You can't check swr on ssb. You have to use am or fm. Your swr will not change from one mode to another.

Update: This is no longer up due to my landlord. The PVC held up great through heavy winds, ice and even the heat through the summer. This stood for over 2 years. The only thing I would change on the setup would be a way to keep it from turning with the wind.

Momma took my allowance. At least you got a couple bumps. :)
