i always love to read these kinds of write ups. So much to be learned from knowledgeable people on this forum. cant say i understand 70% of it but always is nice to read technical material.
definitely want something all solid state. someone offered me an ft101e for 200 a while back ill have to check with him and see if he still has it. bad ass looking radio though. used to have a tube amp but never had to tune it really got it tuned for the channel it was used on with a guy running...
I dont think i would ever hit 2 100watt transistors with that much input and besides i believe the yeticom is just dual finals so you would never see that kind of output from that radio anyways probably 50 watts at the absolute most. if you want to do a bit more power than that TNT350 i would...
The 2970n2 (if throttled back quite a bit) would go nicely with a texas star dx500 get you up to 500w which would be great for am and ssb dont expect to go on ch 6 and get your name called but most other channels you should do ok
in regards to the swr question. If your SWR is good without an...
^^ ab v c^^ get the 2970n2 then i think that would be your best bet. as far as i know they have complete continuous coverage 24-32mhz and youve got 150watt output which is more than enough to get you up and over the noise on 19 if your on the highway and plenty of punch to do some very good...
Thats why i stick with my 95T Tony. If you dont use sideband you will never know how essential that 6th digit is. i would never buy a radio that i intended on using on sideband without a sixth digit YOU NEED IT PLAIN AND SIMPLE
i love my 95T but it drifts like a mofo on these cold new england...
Dang man you got a toss up between the three radios that would be my next purchase. Are you going base or mobile??? I had once a Galaxy DX22B which i think uses the same board as the 2970. Not too sure about what the upgrades or changes the have made with the "n2" but i know they talk real well...
the optima is supposedly very good on SSB. I have not had one or heard one on the air but everyone seems to rave about them which is good.
Now as far as looking for a "high power" radio i wouldnt worry about finding a radio that does a lot of power by itself. I would pick a radio that you like...
by the time your done building the amp 120 watts of drive should give you around...... 1.21 jigawatts i think maybe 1.22 if your flux capacitor is set right
i use a 1k mag and also was astonished at how much moisture was inside the base as well and could see it emerging from the coil there is essentially no seal around the plastic part that butts up to the outer cap. works well. just wish there was a way to easily dissassemble the thing so you could...
i believe Shockwave suggested the sirio gain master antenna for use on 11meters and was explaining about how it has a large coil that reduces the amount of rfi produced by the radiating element. only problem is, its 180 bucks for a vertical. id like to see some more reviews on that antenna...
