Thanks Nomad and Freecell for your input. I looked at a 150 today and thought the audio was good on high and low out of the box. Power output was good also. I just removed the resistor and got the frequencies. I guess I got a good one. I will look at it more tomorrow. That is funny about the...
I like the Linda Blair mention. I think some of the tools of the trade make things easier. You can use tricks of the trade to get to almost the same point. What a fun hobby cb and ham radio is!!!
I try to help people the best I can. I am constantly learning. If you want to really see some hack jobs on radios go to DTB Radio or Fire Communications and look at the blacklist.
I have used cb radios for 30 years. I have been more into the technical side of the hobby for about 14 years...
I don't believe either of my Grant LTs were misaligned. On a signal generator cranked up to full bore the receiver enhanced grant LT was still receiving a signal 5 or 6 channels up and 5 channels down. The stock radio about 3 or 4 channels in either direction and a third grant LT with a channel...
Ray at Galaxy is the lead tech at Galaxy electronics in California. Recently he told me that a few years ago Bill Goode send him a Galaxy 99 I believe that he had done his receive enhancements to. Ray compared it to a new 99 put them both on a signal generator and found out what I stated...
I am trying out the 5.5 foot antenna and am experiencing very good results. This antenna is very well made. Those of you who drive trucks and have a heavy duty mount might want to give these antennas a try.
You might be correct on the Cobras. The Uniden 78's s/rf/swr meter went bad on me for no apparant reason. It is getting current so I am not sure what the problem is yet.
Take it easy, Ben
I would stay away from FG Best. I have had a radio done there and I was not impressed. Frank, Justin, and a morning tech did the receiver enhancements and my adjacent channel rejection went down. If you don't believe me call Ray at Galaxy. I was also promised the changed out parts which were...
Northstar,
Actually the Uniden tuned up better on the scope for audio and on my Coaxial Dynamics meter on power output for Deadkey, RMS, and Peak. I tried two 29s and one 78 so far and this was my findings.
How are things going on the Stryker project?
Regards,
Ben
Both are made in China now. I believe that a company called Giant is making the Cobras and that Unidens are made in their own plants in China. To me the Uniden board is sturdier, it aligned easier, and after 1 hour was on frequency. Just my observations based on a new Cobra 29 and a new Uniden 78.
Both Kale(10K) and Dan(Coily) make a very good antenna. Kale's is a little lighter if that is a concern. Also Kale's is screwed together. Dan's is welded, a little heavier, and the shaft is a little skinnier. I have been running both for several weeks now and the performance of their single coil...
I recently had the chance to operate these two radios and align them and noticed that the Uniden was much closer to manufactures specs than the Cobra. Also the Uniden circuit board appeared stronger than the Cobra. Does this surprise anyone or is this about right?
Northstar is right on the money.
Galaxy will stand behind their products. Bob F. in Pennsylvania is great to deal with. I have had several dealings with him before. I hate to say it but the Connex, Galaxy, RCI, Texas Ranger, Ranger, Mirage, Cobras in 96-97, and many others were and are made...
