Go to DTB radios website or Fire Communiations website and look for the blacklist. I have not seen one personally but have heard complaints from others who have.
By an alignment I mean the shop will have the service manual for the radio and go step by step with a scope, multimeter, rf generator, frequency counter, and accurate power meter and actually align the radio to specs. This may take about an hour to do.
Dave from DTB radio I believe has an...
I would stay away from their Wack Pack. Just pay for an alignment, you will be much happier and the radio will sound better. For receive I have had good luck with the Lou Franklin filters. Get the receive and transmit aligned. The PLL probably does not have to be aligned if the radio is new...
I am starting a new thread regarding these two antennas. I have been using a 15 inch 1 coil Mr. Coily for about two weeks with good results. This is one of the latest versions. Yes it does look like a Predator 10K but so what. It tunes well and transmits and receives well. The coil is welded...
I believe it is where, what type or mount, and what type of vehicle you are driving. If height is not a problem in an 18 wheeler I would think a 27 inch 10K or a similar Coily or the like would work well. If height is a problem a good quality top loaded fiberglass antenna that freecell has been...
You could try 9913 or 9913 Flex. This will handle power, is a good quality rg8 type cable and has very low loss characteristics. I believe Times Microwave LMR 400 is a type of 9913 cable. It is good for about 3300 watts at 30 MHZ.
Chris, I got involved in this thread and others because I thought Dan was getting a bad wrap. He has made some improvements in his Coily antennas so I was going to compare it to Kale's 10K antennas.
Looking at both of them Kale's is lighter and parts can be easily unscrewed and replaced. Kale...
I have been banned from the 1 stop electronics forum and I never said anything bad about them or promoted my business on Frank and Carl's forum. They also do not answer e mails. Oh well who needs them?
The Wilson does not use a lossy capacitor to match the cable to the coil. K40 claims you can run 500 watts PEP into the K40. I had a friend put 150 watts AM into it and it blew. If you are running low power the K40 is ok, but for more than that a Wilson 1000 or 5000 would be a better choice.
I am not sure what DX is trying to say either. But the tractor and 4 wheeler look fun, or is it a 3 wheeler. Freecell would the tractor trailer have worked with a 22 inch or 27 inch coil antenna. That should have gotten the coil above the cab of the truck. But I understand what you are saying...
I have used the Coily and the Predator on my Ford pick up truck and they are tuning from about 25 MHZ to 28 MHZ with an swr around 1.5 to 1 or so. I am getting 1.2 on channel 20. I replaced my Wilson 5000 mag mount with the Coily and Predator and the difference was amazing. Better transmit and...
Tried the same test with my Icom 706mkIIG and two channels up and two down to s-1 reading with the generator cranked up all the way on channel 19. I guess this should not surprise too many people though. Just trying to share some information.
I guess that is possible. I did use the Cobra 148 service manual and adjust all 3 radios to s-9 with 30% modulation, 27.185, 1000hz, 100uv before I proceeded. All radios manufactured in 2004. I have installed many Lou Franklin filters in the past with good results. I was talking to Ray about...
I have 3 Uniden Grant LTs that I am testing. Radio number one has a Lou Franklin Filter in it. Adjacent Channel Rejection with my signal generator all the way up is awesome. It drops to 1 s unit 2 channels above and below channel 19 . Radio number two is stock and takes about 4 channels either...
I am going to do a test similar to what Uncle Jim did awhile ago. I was going to test a 102 inch whip, Mr. Coily, Predator, and a Wilson 5000 Magnet mount mounted on the top of my pick up truck.
I understand that the coils and the shaft length need to be close in length. Just like the overall length I would think. I wonder how the 17 inch shaft single coil would do matching swrs? One really can't complain about 1.2-1.3-1 swrs. I am using a Valor(Astatic) tri magnet mount on the top of...
