I like the new Brownings and Trams as well. Good for the money. They are a little heavier though. There are some inexpensive coil antennas that don't look like they would last. Also remember that the heavier antennas put alot of torque on the mount. There are many names worth looking into. Mr...
I have got a Mr. Coily on the way and when I receive I am going to give my opinion on it and my Predator 10 K single coil 12 inch. Hey, both are great antennas. May the best built antenna win!!!!!
Dan, I run a 12 inch single predator 10k. It is around 78 inches tall from bottom of antenna to tip of whip. I am using it on top of my Ford pick up truck on a Valor(Astatic) tri mag mount with good results. Swrs around 1.2-1.3 to 1 on the CB band. What Mr. Coily would you suggest to try and...
Northstar I have sold a few 3 series. The customers seem happy. I had a few led problems. That is about it. Same with the 9 series. Stan seems like a stand up guy and he has been very helpfull.
Thanks Moleculo. I spoke to a tech at Galaxy today and he told me that several years ago Bill sent him a galaxy radio after he had done his gasfet mod. The radio was a little less noisy, more sensitive, but the adjacent channel rejection was actually reduced. Do other components need to be...
I have spoken to one of the techs at Galaxy and he told me that Bill Goode, several years ago, sent in a Galaxy with his Gasfet mod. It did reduce the noise floor somewhat, it made the receiver more sensitive, but Galaxy did not, after testing, find that it increased the adjacent channel...
Maybe I posted my questions in the wrong part of the forum. I was wondering if anyone had a fix for the hum when the backlit is turned up to high? Also any ideas about changing the 1st if and 1st rf mixer to gasfet or mosfet transistors? Thank you. Does anyone own one and what are your thoughts?
Would gasfet or mosfet be a better choice? I realize that both have a faster gate time and linearity vs bi polar. Except for a little cost savings why would Ranger use the bi polar. It seems by adding only a few dollars in better parts they would have a way better radio? Would the gasfets be...
Has anyone come up with a way to improve the receive on this unit? Changing the front end transistors to gasfet or mosfet? How are they holding up in the real world. :D
The article also stated that there are about 1.7 million otr truck drivers in this country. Add to that all the other trucks with cbs and we have many people using cb radio on a daily basis.
How are they holding up in the field? How are the receivers? Are there any upgrades to the receiver that can be done? Do they drift on SSB like some of the other Galaxys? Thank you.
Sorry Freecell, I understand what you are talking about. Very interesting. I guess Cobra and Unden realize that Galaxy sells about 50% of all cb/export radios in this country. I don't remember where I read that so please take with a grain of salt. I can share one fact though. I recently read in...
I believe Justin is correct on this one. For a pure radio the RCI 2950dx or the President Lincoln are better radios receive and transmit. The Magnum, Galaxys, and Connex radios have more toys, are less stable on SSB and their receivers are a bit noisy. Same with the Northpoints.
