deregulated?
maybe you mean when the last CB license was issued.
They stopped licensing when the fcc got over a million applications a month.
I can read about anybody getting a CB license after 1979, but they could have actually stopped around 1980-1981.
Today from the official...
Android operating system is intended for more than just cell phone.
It is freely available open-source OS.
Some day your next hand-held radio could have touchscreen with android OS.
All the source code is there ready to use, along with the example hardware for non cellphone devices.
Only...
Consider a deep cycle battery.
They are used on wheelchairs and forklifts.
They cannot supply massive currents for starting a car, but they last longer under a continuous load.
Run your radio from a deep cycle battery, and it should last longer. But not connected to your vehicle electrical...
You probably need to pay more attention to your vehicle body as a counterpoise for your antenna. No matter what kind of antenna you try.
Often pickup truck beds are mounted on rubber, and dont have good electrical connection to rest of truck frame for the purpose of radio frequency. It often...
unit399: CB peaked in the late 70's because of movies like smoke & bandit, and because there was no other personal communications technology widely available. The price of CBs came down then.
If the only draw to CB is skip talking, then ham radio has the same draw, except who likes to talk...
You're forgetting that "CB watts" = 27MHz watts + harmonic watts + splatter watts + extra reading from antenna reflecting all that harmonics back. Then you get a kilowatts from four pills.
For Summit county, look at the radioreference wiki page.
Summit County, Ohio (OH) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference
scroll to the very bottom of page to see the trunked systems.
Look up the operators of those business systems and see what kind of deal they can do.
The next trucking movie to come out is Craig Brewer's Mother Trucker.
Its said to be a modern uptake on smoky and the bandit.
who knows if CB is a part of it.
CB was big because it was the only available personal communications technology.
Not so today.
You are looking for dumping cell phone for cost, or you want the standard behavior of two-way radio: push to talk?
If you only need to talk a few miles, you can consider MURS for cheapness.
But if you need to talk around town, you need to use a repeater.
There are many options, such as...
The manual on the firestik site says 9 tube, but the schematic shows 5 tubes.
Cant be right, but their site said many of the original documents were lost due to storm damage.
Its par for the course, when you are working with a product coming on 40 years old which wasn't legal in the first...
I was reading on qrz a thread about garmin astro.
One post seemed to say to be careful of RF front end overload of receiver with external antenna. It might suffer from intermod from other strong signals on vhf, or worst case be damaged by very strong signal. Or perhaps that was in reference...
Ironically, the Gap Titan isnt supposed to be grounded.
The Gap Titan should be electrically isolated from its mount.
kind of goes counter to the general recommendation of grounding.
Ground your station but not the antenna?
Yes CH5 is the mexican trucker channel.
When the E-skip comes in from mexico, the soup comes in like it does on CH19 when there is skip in USA.
CH7 is also a mexican trucker channel.
They are both used by mexican truckers in southern california.
When E-skip from mexico comes in, the entire...
haha. that swr cream is great. Apply liberally!
Anyways, that MFJ analyzer is mediocre but has a good instruction manual for the "antenna hints" section.
No value in pasting it here, just reat it.
It says that if swr changes with coax length, then the coax is radiating (common mode...
I am a little disturbed that people would consider a battery before a properly sized power supply.
These are lead-acid batteries. lead and sulfuric acid. Although when over-charged, they out-gas hydrogen and oxygen, there are small amounts of the chemicals gassing unless its a valve regulated...
Yes, killing the power to the house is a good way to eliminate your own house being the source of the noise. As long as your radio can run from battery for that test.
Another way is to walk around with a portable AM broadcast receiver when the noise is at it worst. Find a station which is...
The main thrust of amateur radio is long-distance communication, not necessarily broadcast-studio quality of audio.
But perhaps are you are referring to AM on the ham bands? Perhaps you refer to those AM stations operated by former broadcast engineers. This is a small facet of ham radio, yet...
The signal engineering page doesnt mention one important point about antenna loading coils.
Its Q or quality factor.
Signal engineering page says that most efficient is continuously loaded. But according to coil Q rules, that cant be true. The hams say long-skinny coils have low Q. and...
Here is a good article on amplifier arcing:
http://www.eham.net/articles/21381
Some mention there of capacitor plate spacing vs. voltage limit.
And among other things, the various causes of arcing.
For ground-wave talking, yes.
But for skip talking, FM is bad because the skip fading distorts the FM in a way which makes it easily garbled.
Of course FM has swing: frequency swing.
