The opinion that matters here is the one used by the FCC. Engineers deleted those mode classifications. They were most likely competent engineers who recognized hobbyists cannot measure occupied bandwidth. Many can't grasp the concept and prefer to make it into some sort of personal crusade.

Dunno about the 430 but on the 440 it is very common to have the mic gain pot on the front of the rig fail. When they fail the gain can be wide open.

The trick is to pick it up without doing the job on yer back.
