I’ve got an Icom 7300 with a PR-781 mic here in the shack. I do love the DSP and filtering that comes with a modern HF rig, but I think for the mobile the “big radio” CB will do just fine for my use. Maybe next year I’ll switch over to a full mobile HF station.
Tim gets too much shit. I decided last year to just buy a new Uniden 980SSB with a Stinger board from him to play with in the mobile. That was one good talking radio, even garnering praise on the audio from SuperTech ‘Harddrive’ when I talked to him from south of Dallas on I-45 one afternoon...
Well, I ordered a DX-94HP from Bell's. I started to get a little leery of a Yaesu that was selling for $100-$150 less than other people sell it for, and I'd have to buy a $325 screwdriver HF antenna to go with it. So, Galaxy it is.
Update:
I've been looking at all my options and I think I'm down to a used Yaesu FT-450D that I might be able to pick up for $400 or a new Galaxy DX-94HP. I know these are polar opposites but I like each one for their merits.
The Yaesu obviously gives me full HF use as well as 11M, and that's...
Who should I get it from? I don't want a clipped, overmodulated splatter box. I just want clean RX/TX with as much power and sensitivity as reasonably possible with a good alignment.
Anyone know of a tech that restores microphones? I've got an old pre-Telex Road King 56 on the way and I'd like to have it, tested, cleaned up and rewired for my 980.
I actually like watching them. Yeah, production is amateur, but he's a radio tech and not a photographer. I might also be used to the motion thing because my grandfather, who recorded lots of memories on his camcorder, had the same filming technique. lol
Despite all the shit talked about him...
The videos are free and for the customer. He does them to show the work he's charging for and so the customer can see the process. Personally, I think it's a great idea.
I got a local guy that says he can still get me a new 2018, so I ordered one through him and I'll have him wire it to 6-pin. Hopefully he actually can still get one.
Thanks guys.
What mic do y'all recommend for good quality audio with noise cancellation? I used to use the RK56 years ago, but it's junk now, so I need a new go-to mic.
I'm selling my Rolling Radios customized Midland 1001LWX CB/Weather Radio along with a matched XForce MF-200 Amplifier, Midland 21-404C External Speaker and Astatic Road Devil Mic. The radio has a blue backlight instead of the factory amber backlight. The radio, speaker and mic were installed in...
