    best base cb ??

Hi, For 11-meters, I like the Uniden Grant XL. (or LT) They're still available NOS here and there. (eBay, etc.) The Galaxy 2547 is also very nice. I have both and they both perform well but the superior receive on the Uniden makes it my personal preference. For 10-meters, you might want to...

HY-GAIN 10/12 METER SUPER PENETRATOR 500 5/8 GP BACK IN PRODUCTION!

I too agree that Jay's I-10K is one of the best constructed commercialy available 5/8L verticals available today. As for it's performance, that's been thoroughly discussed on many forums. Of particular note is the rec.radio.amateur.antenna newsgroup; I seem to remember an excellent thread re...

HY-GAIN 10/12 METER SUPER PENETRATOR 500 5/8 GP BACK IN PRODUCTION!

FB, Ed! I did notice that the ground plane radial bracket is bent rather than curved. Shouldn't affect the performance though. Ease of manufacturing and fabrication most likely. Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

HY-GAIN 10/12 METER SUPER PENETRATOR 500 5/8 GP BACK IN PRODUCTION!

If they ban this one,.they'd have to ban the V58/5000, I-10K, Enforcer .64, Vector 4000,.etc. Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

Hi agn, Kamikaze: Very well summarized! When I was abt 13 or so, my parents bought me a pair of GE 100 mW Part 15 h/t's that were crystallized for CB channels, 14 and 20. (27.2050 MHz or Ch. 20 was the local ragchew freq back then,.circa 1975.) I gave one to my best friend down the block and...

Hi Kamikaze, Thanks for the reply. I like your ideas. I currently use an 88' doublet (20m EDZ) fed with ladder line and a tuner for 10 through 80. As expected, it plays like a gangbuster on 20. My thought for newly licensed Techs who'd like to jump on the phone portion of 10m, a 44' EDZ would...

    Best Matching Method

Ok, I kinda wanted it to be a discussion of various favorite matching methods rather than a question re. a specific antenna. I thought it would be a nice learning thread for all as well a good discussion topic illustrating a nice cheap alternative for those seeking a "gain" antenna. (i.e. a...

Hi CK, Easy, if it were a resonant antenna, it'd be, say... a half-wave dipole. With all the talk of 5/8ths (0.625L) wave and 0.624L antennas, I'd like some opinions on feeding a non-resonant "gain" antenna. My personal choice being an EDZ, of course, but the 20-meter EDZ I'm using now also...

I asked this as part of a different post but it may have gotten "lost in the sauce." What are your opinions re. the most efficient/low loss way to feed a non-resonant single band antenna? (I.e. Gamma, Beta, Tapped-coil, Transmatch in the shack, etc.) As always, take care es... Vy 73 de Bert...

    Best Shop for tuning?

Too bad Panther Electronics in NH is no longer around. The owner, John, was not only a first rate tech, but also the genuine article as far as being a fair and reasonable gent. Vy 73 de Bert WA2SI Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

    BEST COAX

LMR-400 is really good stuff, agreed. However, I think LMR-240UF is really better in terms of dipoles and other wire aerials that are hung in so much that weight becomes a factor. For base antennas such as a Yagi or vertical that is mounted, LMR-400 type coax is probably the best choice...

    Hy-Gain Super Penetrator 500

Hi all, I received a follow-up e-mail from Tom that he has confirmed that it is indeed 6063-T832, not 6061-T6, as previously reported. That's still fine by me. This still makes it a great buy at $149 plus S&H. Additionally, I will be constructing two other dedicated single-band antennas and...

    BEST COAX

Yeah, Doc... You betcha! Let us remember that folks who enjoy optimizing their stations are members of a subset within the radio hobby. So yes, 6 - 8 Watts means something to these people; Perhaps not to you, but certainly to them. I, for one, try to be cautious about belittling their efforts...

    BEST COAX

Here's a funny story. Long before I became a licensed ham, I accompanied my licensed friend to a local Radio Shack to pick up some coax. After he made his purchase, the salesperson tried to sell me some coax. I politely replied that I was using 9913 (The rage back in the mid 80's.) for my...

    Antenna Size question

    Antenna Size question

Long ahead of you, Doc. I'm using a 20m EDZ and it plays FB. It replaced a Carolina Window that had replaced a standard 40m double... & so on. So when I recommend this antenna, it's based on first hand experiences. I like it so much that I'm going to build a dedicated 11m one with some birdcage...
