You have two choices file a complaint with the FCC or don't. No one on a forum can really help your situation. The only other thing I did point out is that if the FCC looks into the issue they most likely will look into the behaviour of all in the area, which might be why some don't want to...
I know if I was a fireman and they brought out a cobbled together repeater like that it would be the last fire I'd be fighting for them. The reason real ones actually cost more is because they actually are tested for reliability. I don't think this is a good idea even if it was legal for safety...
I think you missed an important part of the story, he summoned help on the public safety frequency. I do believe there were other alternatives that were shown to be available like a bunch of local repeaters in the area and he might have actually had a cell phone or someone else that stopped had...
I have a few verticals
My R-8 works great, lots of DX, but it definitely isn't stealthy
My Little Tarheel II is a great vertical it will do 80m-6m (no 160m), it will run you a few hundred dollars, I have mine mounted on my truck for mobile use and have worked lots of Europe and South America...
I have to say the Ft-8800, the crossband repeat is great and the memory management is the best out that group. I'd choose the FTM-350 if you included that in your list, love mine.
No you still don't have it.
D-layer during the day absorbs more RF (doesn't matter which frequency) at night it's less ionized therefore more RF pass through it so that it can be reflected off high layers.
Forget about frequency that seems to be what is confusing you.
Well one of the big limiting factors on your list is SSB only one manufacture makes 1 handheld that has SSB, Kenwood TH-F6A.
For starters the wide band Rx on all handhelds is not that good, basically its useful for very strong signals.
There is no radio on the market that has all your specs...
Yes I think they should still teach you how to properly hook up the horses and that should be included on the drivers exam and how about the correct way to turn the crank on the front of your car?
I love how everyone likes to slag on the appliance operators, I'd rather bands full of appliance...
Maybe he would have liked it 20-40 years ago because at least then there were things being built.
Post some pictures of all the stuff you've built in the last few years, it would be interesting to see.
Not sure what the random use of capitals is for.
The hobby has turned into one of...
You've got your point across, there is a lot of antiquated things in the amateur radio syllabus. As you can see the reason it hasn't progressed or advanced is because a sizeable proportion don't want it to change or advance.
CW is wonderful, but it should no more be an entry requirement than...
Actually I did work for a company that made parts for the government, we made drivetrain components for Bradleys, HMMWV, and various other vehicles for the US military as well as other NATO countries. Yes the government procurement process and required testing as well as the limited quantities...
