    Yaesu VX-8r Review

I have both batteries 1 stock and 3 FNB-102's and I haven't done tests but would say that my experience is in line with what you have found.

    I'm such a Bozo......

And now you feel proud because you fixed a problem by actually understanding how things work. Making a mistake isn't a bad thing it's not learning from it and it looks like you learned from yours, good stuff. Enjoy your tuner and the meter with lights now;)

    Here I "CODE" Again.......

You might want to look into the Koch method to learn CW. You basically learn each character at full speed (say 20wpm) and keep adding characters when you copy at +90%. This way you learn code by the sound not by looking up the series of dots and dashes in your head. You also don't have to...

    Flex-3000 available soon...anyone buying?

Yes I saw that they have transverters in coming out sometime. I believe I read some where on the site that they should be full duplex capable. But a unit the size of the Flex-3000 with 2m, 70 and 1,2 Ghz and 2,4 Ghz would be very cool.

    Flex-3000 available soon...anyone buying?

I wish they would make a VHF/UHF radio for satellite work, 2m, 70cm, 1.2 GHz, 2.4 GHz, that would be sweet.

    Programming the VX-8R

Latest update from RT Systems regarding the programming software and cable for the VX 8R. They are tooling up for the cable so it looks like the date will be pushed out till April, but it's on it's way.

    Flex-3000 available soon...anyone buying?

You're definitely right about the PowerSDR. The other great thing is the guys at Flex give great support to ensure that you get it up and running right. IF you're thinking of getting one give them a call and let them know what computer you are going to be using and they will let you know if it...

    Flex-3000 available soon...anyone buying?

I suspect younger Amateurs who basically have grown up with computers will be less put off by SDR's. The Flex uses Firewire as the connection not USB. I think the videos on their site do a pretty good job of showing the PowerSDR software. I really like the ones of W3JK remotely working...

    Flex-3000 available soon...anyone buying?

Hate to tell you most the modern radios those knobs and switches basically work the exact same way as the SDR's but without the benefit of being able to ad new features via software. If you really want a knob and switches there is one that you can get for the Flex. I know my next rig will...

    QSL cards and Communist Countries...?

Too late the NSA already knows.:tt2: Considering the very large Cuban population you have in the US (more Cubans in FL than Cuba) there's lots of mail going back and forth. You still can't visit unless you come up to Canada and go from here (lots do), the fine folks at Cuban customs won't...

    VX-8r Duck

It's a handheld radio, putting mobile mag mounts on them would really defeat the "handheld" part. There is no rubberduck multiband antenna that will perform anywhere near as good as a 5/8 whip or 1/4 whip or long wire, or dipole or yagi. So comparisons are meaningless, unless you want to...

    VX-8r Duck

Well a 5/8 antenna even a 1/4 wave on the outside of a vehicle is always going to perform better than a rubber duck. I can't believe people with Ham tickets have expectations other than this. The Yagi on my tower even does better than the 5/8 on my truck.

    VX-8r Bug?

That's not a bug, the supplied adapter is meant for charging and does not supply enough power to transmit, at least not on full power.

    New Extra advice

Congratulations. As with most I too suggest listening to the local repeater for a bit, then jump in give your call sign, and see if someone comes back to you. Don't be surprised if its just silence. This hobby that is about communicating seems to have a lot of people that don't want to talk to...

    Thought on a Yaesu FT-100D?

I've had one for years, great radio except for the fact that Yaesu really doesn't support it anymore. The VHF/UHF finals are weak and may go on you, it's a very common problem. The radio is nice, I like it better than the FT 857. The only mobile HF that I like better is the Icom IC7000 which...

VX8R- How do you delete Digipaths?

Yea that's not really an adequate work around, I know one could do a factory reset, but to remove one digipath, I'd also lose over 100 other memories, doesn't sound reasonably to me.

VX8R- How do you delete Digipaths?

Yes thats how mine goes, there are no spaces so there is no way to blank out a digi path once you put one into any memory location.

VX8R- How do you delete Digipaths?

Mine goes directly from Zero to Z and at the other end goes from 9 to A in the Digi Path menu.
