Funny you said that, I went past a three gorges damn click bait this afternoon.
I remember when yt was a decent platform for how to stuff.
Now too much of it is fake, false or flat earthers often with false content patched together with references of other false content followed by some AI guy...
For several decades TS has been building these amps and if they were run as TS first recommended they were decent out of the box amps for the dollar, they had a bias set-up, not the best but if you stay within the guide lines they provided a decent signal on SSB.
Almost everyone knew they...
On my 500 I have a separate positive wires to each two transistor board to feed them.
On the 8 transistor amps that would be 4 positive feeds, one for each 2 transistor board in the amp.
And the crappy fuse holders get bypassed, directly feeding the amp from the batteries.

As has been posted in the other for sale section this is a warning about new users sending direct messages about items for sale or a item you have posted that you are looking for.
In one example a user was sent a message that a "senior member" that has been here for years had a item for sale and...
This one.
I almost bought one except ST reported a couple issues with some features not working.

There was another one as well, I think Shade tree has one, it was a new start up manufacturer.
I was told once that a good bit of a new radio cost was designing and molding a new benzel and faceplates.
I believe it, seems like every radio has a clone somewhere.

Very nice Switch, that's a collectors item in today's world.
That really looks like Ray built this one, before Billy started building Messanger.
But I don't remember when Ray sold the company, too many years ago....
Maybe Toll Free or Nomad can pinpoint the date.
Toll Free built a few messenger...
The Varmit SSL 250 solid state Amp, 5 transistor 1 driving 4
One Motorola MRF 450 driving 4 MRF 454
Very old and rare example, this is basically 1/2 of the solid state SSL 600.
Note the large output transformers used on the 4 transistor section by Abe back then, long before Davemade or any other...
My 500 has been on 10/12 for almost a half a century, never had a issue with signal quality if you keep drive levels low.
I recommend the older TS's if you can get a unmolested one

Today these drive levels are rolling the dice, on a very large bet.
I still have this same 500, it has lasted going on 40 years now and the reason is I keep output below 400 watts on a peak reading meter.
It has seen some abuse, I once got the mic stuck down in the seat, radio and amp keyed on...
Well
If you can bring yourself to mount it.......
I used to have a Hustler CG 144 on my Buick it's ugly, it's big and it is the highest gain antenna I have ever run on a mobile.
I used a SS Hustler Ball mount center of the trunk.
Everyone thought it was a CB antenna because they are just a hair...
