I think Icom has a model or two that do 1.2 ghz as an option. Seems like the Kenwood TS-2000 did, too. You.might find one o the used market?

Thanks for the response! So, your mini has a firewire port, correct? I think the trick is to have a firewire card with a port. I can't add any ports to my laptop, so I would have to get a computer with firewire to make it work. The tech at Flexradio said the cable alone will not make it...
It's been going on for a long time. I had a friend that bought a 746 Pro about 10 years ago, and HRO did it for him then. Truly not many MARS/CAP guys out there for the number of rigs that are converted. ;)

Again, from what I have seen, it is the guys that go portable on a mountaintop with qrp, but have an rv that they get there in. They want a smaller amp for limited space when they are stationary or at the rv park. Other guys get the qrp rig on the cheap, then just want more power.

I actually bought some led bulbs from these guys:
http://www.centsibleamusements.com/pinball-led-lighting.aspx
They have bayonet style led bulbs that are used in a lot of the old HF rigs.
Thought they might have something that would work for you.

I pretty much settled on the Ranger SRA-158 after fiddling with just about every power mic I could find. It's not a power mic, but plenty clean and clear.

Clubs that test usually provide study classes, too. I used the Gordo book and studied online. Depending on how much time you have to study, a month is certainly do-able. Good luck!
