I saw the grounding mod in a video, my old jackson drifts as it warms up in the freezing temps. I may try this mod too. The vid I saw had all the cans connected, even the ones by the channel section, and to the chassis.
Robb, another difference is the pot at the final that has no slug on the original. You can see this of you look at your pic in 243 vs the one I posted. In my pic the pot is to the left of the new cap.
I checked bias on my original and the driver is now at the recommended 50mA but the final would not move past 67mA(should be 100mA). I may change out VR9 for a new one because half the range I got the same readings.
I would like to know how the TR26 resistor addition works out.
I will take and post any shots you want of the original I have. I am intrigued by the MRF477. Here is a thread from across the pond, plenty of board pics.

You guys have convinced me not to deal with the Ohio guy. I had planned to have him go through my radio! Guess I will keep my original and continue to maintain it myself until I find someone else closer. He is 60 miles from me.
When did the superstar jacksons come out and for how long? I didn't say they were new, I said new old stock,NOS. Something NOS could be 50 years old but still new in the box. They may be 10 years old I don't know, but I don't think they took President boards, modded them and then put a Ranger...
I think you guys are jumping the gun thinking these are 30 year old radios. They have ranger boards that are like the originals but not exactly. They are not PB 042 board Jacksons. They are probably just leftover new old stock superstars they found in a warehouse somewhere.
Lou Frankin's Uniden Export manual is what I referenced from. I just received it this week. It does not mention the 6th band but I believe it is on the low end. I think changing to that crystal would put you between CB channels so you would really want to add .005 to it.
