    Starting a new yagi today

Oh, that was the Coors Lite ground plane! I found that I left the beam set at 40 degrees most of the time since EU is my main interest. Not sure whether I'll do another rotary beam for 20 without a tower. I'm considering a switched 2 element vertical array- either Christman phased or a...

    Starting a new yagi today

Yep... The mast buckled some time during the night last Tuesday, with all guys intact. This was a fun antenna while it lasted, unfortunately I didn't get to use it all that much. My work situation changed just a couple of weeks after I finished this antenna and I have spent a lot of...

    Any microwave techs around...need info

I did that kind of work for years, it was all 24VDC positive ground, no matter what vendor manufactured the equipment. Neary all telephone equipment is -48VDC, by the way. Sounds like you've figured it out, though. +12VDC is only one way of doing things... Rick

has anybody tried a "Balun Kit"

Right, that's what I was going to suggest if your spreaders are stout enough to handle the 1/2" line. I think what you're finding is what's common in rolling your own: Physical needs dictating what you use. There's no doubt a toroidal balun in a "can" would work fine electrically, but dealing...

has anybody tried a "Balun Kit"

Question-- how do you plan to support the weight of the hardline at the quad's feedpoint? Do you plan to build it in a diamond configuration and attach the feedline to the crossarm? Rick

has anybody tried a "Balun Kit"

I'm just now seeing this, have been offline for a few days. YEP- see my thread in the Amateur Radio Antenna forum on starting a new yagi. From all indications, it does what I expected. Since you're talking about a quad, yeah I know they're "supposed" to have a balun, but I've built them...

Poll: vote for your favorite 1/4 wave gp

Ah! Sorry! I don't know whether any part of this antenna came from HD, but the stainless bolts and nuts for the yagi came from the Urnge store. So did the mailbox I recently bought (and have yet to put up), the electric edger I used yesterday, my mower, and pile of other stuff around here...

Poll: vote for your favorite 1/4 wave gp

A 20 fan are you, Homer? Actually, I think I ended up going to both. I'm in both places so much I lose track...

Poll: vote for your favorite 1/4 wave gp

I'd like to thank the academy and all who made this possible: Ben Franklin, Marconi, DeForest, Ohm, Walmart, Lowe's, and Adolph Coors and Sons.

    Meters for modulation

I'd suggest getting a decent used scope and learning how to use it. Rick

Poll: vote for your favorite 1/4 wave gp

Heh! I just plugged the top one so I'd be able to read the cans... Dang, I'm always overlooking somethin'...

Poll: vote for your favorite 1/4 wave gp

Well thanks fellas, but that antenna is just a product of natural smarta$$ness, not any technological genius idea. I always wondered what it would be like to make an antenna out of beer/coke cans. Truth is, it was a pain in the butt to build! Now I have to figure out what to do with it...

    11m Cubical Quad Dimensions

I can dig up pics of a 2 el quad I built for 27 MHz a few years ago. I didn't record the dimensions of the spreaders, but used 1005/f for the driven element and added 5% for the reflector (bare wire) and just adjusted the spreaders a bit until the loops were even and under tension. At 5ft...

I am looking at a new Antenna

A 6 element quad would be a formidable skyhook.

Hey, you may have a 25-30 MHz antenna there!

Poll: vote for your favorite 1/4 wave gp

Well you know, I'd think the chicken wire would be pretty broadbanded since the effective diameter of the radiator is a couple of inches! Even a wire ground plane can cover a lot of ground in that part of the spectrum.

No, that's an option available only with the super rejection/extended radial kit. $59.99.

    Ground Plane Contest

Yeah, I think so. Otherwise we're all voting for each other! What's interesting to me is how different each of them have been, yet they're all variations on a theme. We have so far (correct me if I'm leaving anything out): 1. A 10K- ground mounted with elevated radials 2. A 1/4...

    Thirteen Colonies Special Event Stations

I worked the DE and MD stations on that list late this afternoon on 10M- with the ground plane antenna shown in another thread. Rick

    Ground Plane Contest

Ha! Excelllent, Mack! You must have brought some serious heat to solder all that. McGiver style points for the squeegee handle! And thanks, Booty-- it was a pain, but I was on a mission-- and just for the record, I'm not averse to a cool one now and then, but those were mostly from the...
