I drive locally (less than 200 miles from home) and run both CB and an HF ham rig.
The CB is for talking to equipment operators at rock crushers and the scale houses.
And also on the job sites too. We build oil and gas well drill sites and it is necessary
to have a CB, especially when there are...
I have an 890AT (actually two of them) and love it. I use the stock hand mic and also the MD-100A8X desk mic. Both mics sound good from the audio reports I have received. I have even used the MD-100A8X with my Flex 1500 and again, good reports. Yaesu radios, in my experience, tend to sound best...
The 2970n2 is a nice radio. (I have one) BUT, the difference between 100 watts and 200 watts is not noticeable on the receive end. Even at 50 watts on the Yetticom, there won't be a lot of noticeable difference. Invest in a good antenna and you will get much more for your money. Better Receive...
I have both and like them both as well. The 706 is really not that hard to use. And most of the menu settings are set and forget. As for the Noise Blanker in the TS-50, in my case, it was all but useless. And the one in the 706 MKIIG, is not much better.
My ICOM 7000 has an excellent noise...
The FT-890AT is a very good radio. I have two of them. Bought one as a backup for
the one I use as a base rig. (besides other rigs I have) And I really do like the 890.
It is easy to use and NO menu's! Always good audio reports and the receiver is very
good, quiet and yet very sensitive. Couple...
Same as others, my prayers are with you and your family. Hope someone takes you up on your generous offer. As for the ham gear you want to sell, send me a PM with your email address. I have a friend in Arlington that trades in ham gear. And I do to some extent as well. And maybe we can help you...
You will still have to pass the Tech test before the General. You can take both tests
at the same time. (if you pass the tech first that is). The Alinco DX-SR8T is not a bad
radio. But, is very basic. For not much more money you can get an ICOM 718 that is much better. You can get your money...
Those sunspots are coming back up. You'll soon get your chance on 10 meters again!
I have heard several DX stations on 10 even in the last few days. Not the strongest of signals, but, easy enough to work them.

You'll be blown away by the filtering abilities of PowerSDR with the Flex radios. Even with my little 1500 qrp rig, it amazes me how well it works.
The Tracking Notch Filter is just great. And you can stack the filters to
get even more filtering on an offending signal.

You're right! I forgot about simplex autopatch's. Haven't seen one in
years and never wanted to use one at home anyway. Too easy to
have problems.

Did you read this part?
Guess, the seller doesn't realize that most, if not all, repeaters now days do not have auto patch anymore.
I seriously doubt that it will sell, especially at his starting price.

Nice video!! I'm still learning all the ins and outs of the Flex 1500. Great qrp rig.
I like the inband dual receive. It works much better than I thought it would.
Having two independent receivers like the 5000 seems to be really cool.
Guess, I'll have to save my pennies and get one one of...
Try looking up the part numbers on the two IC's and you can get some idea of what the board is for. Or, if you have the schematic for the radio, follow the leads from the board to see what section of the radio it is hooked up to.
Kind of hard to know otherwise.

Heard them on 17 meters(18.150 up 10-15) this evening on the way home. Too much trouble to stop and set my IC-706MKIIG up for split, so I just listened to the mayhem!
Finally decided to listen around a bit lower and had a nice qso with a guy in PA. He was a good 20 over 9 and he said my little...
I second the suggestion of getting an all band HF rig if you can. The cost of a new 10 meter only radio, is getting really close to the price of a good used, multi-band HF rig.
If there is a ham club nearby, I would suggest talking to some of the guys there and asking for advice from them. If...
