Need a new multimeter that goes past 1KV

You might want to Google a Fluke 80k-6, high voltage probe. It has a built in voltage divider to allow measurements on a regular meter. Just make sure you follow directions carefully! Dave_W6DPS

Just another cool old HAM video

Hey, I remember when that was a new ham film. (Video? Not for a while...) I still have a Swan Like Enrique's... Dave_W6DPS

    AC Current Limiter?

Yeah, definately a gimmic. A few years ago they sold these saying it would drastically reduce your electric bill.... Dave_W6DPS

    antenna obstructions causing swr problems?

Metal objects below the ringo should not affect it significantly. As for SWR varying with power, there are a couple of possibilities. You ruled one out by using rg213 (coax loss can make your SWR look better because the reflected power is attenuated). What kind of SWR meter are you...

    Apeaking on 10 meters...

I haven't seen conditions like this in a couple of cycles! (Yes, I have been around for a few...) I have my HTX-10 set up on my patio with a 5/8 mag-mount on a steel picnic table and just worked a Florida station followed by a JA. Both on FM!! This shaping up to be a cycle we will talk...

    10 meters is wide open

When I got home today, about 5PM local, 23:00z, it was jumping here on the west coast. I could hear a lot of DX, from Japan to Venezuela. I wasn't so successful at breaking into pileups... i did work a couple of XEs, but that "DX" is closerto me than Los Angeles is. I did work a fellow...

    2m SKIP?

On rare occasion (last time was at the peak of the last sunspot cycle) there are some strange effects over the Pacific. During the summer of 2004 there was a three- week period when there were daily duct openings from Southern California to Hawaii. I would stake out a liely spot on a...

Hi, I'm looking for Ham Technician Freq.'s

In addition to USB on 28.3 to 28.5, a Technician licensee can also use CW, RTTY, and Digital modes from 28.0 to 28.3. For example, this includes PSK-31 activity on 28.120. So the space is pretty good, and 10 has been popping open quite nicely recently. I have a Radio Shack HTX-10, which...

    US Amateur bands

When the Advanced and Novice were grandfathered, it means the existing Advanced and Novice can stay as they are. Their privilidges haven't changed. But no one else can get those classes of license. From General you upgrade straight to Extra, with no option to get Advanced. When the last...

Picked up what I was told is a Ringo Ranger for 2 meters

If you remove the radial ring and coax sectionfrom an ARX-2B, and feed directly to the ring match, you now have an ARX-2. You lose a couple dB, but it is not too bad. Cushcraft (now part of MFJ) sells replacement parts. Good luck!

Picked up what I was told is a Ringo Ranger for 2 meters

That is an ARX-2B. They are a great antenna. I used one for years, until I replaced it with an ARX-270 dual-band. Make sure you clean it up as you assenble it, since aluminum does corrode. Use sealing dope on the coax at all three connectors, and plan on redoing these two things every...

    US Amateur bands

The last changes to the ham bands was adding the 60 meter band and the increase in CW sub-bands for Technician/Novice licensees to match the General class sub-bands in width on 15, 40, and 80. Technicians and Novices are still limited in power and may only use A1A CW on those bands. Advanced...

cobra 29 LTD and an 11 meter dipole

That makes it a dipole that simulates a very large conductor diameter. It may or may not help your signal. SWR alone is only an indication of impedance matching. Are there parallel wires nearby the antenna in the attice? What is your roof made of? Tile can have conductinve minerals in...

need help on getting/making a 433.9 MHZ antenna

But a lot of things done to a receiving antenna simply don't make sense. Just extending it will not neccesarily increase signal strength. First, make sre that both antennas are in the same plane. If one is vertical and the other is horizontal you lose about half the signal strength. A...

Getting back into it with a VX-8GR?

The sales tax can be an issue, assuming you get the shipping and insurance free. Otherwise they may be close to a wash. I like HRO's customer service marginally better. AES and I only had a dust-up once, and they usually have pretty good service. It always seems better when you walk in...

    icom ic-718

I use an Astron SS-25M with my IC-718. You want at least a solid 20 amps capacity if you are going to use the full 100 watt output. Astron and Alinco make pretty good power supplies. Mine is a switcher, but with such great filtering that there is no detectable noise on the output. I used...

Looking for ideas on Jeep Cherokee Installs

You might try an automatic tuner like the Alinco EDX-2 or one of the LDG models, with a whip. "The Alinco EDX-2 is an automatic antenna tuner principally designed for the DX70T and DX77T. It can operate over 3.5 to 30 MHz with a 10 foot (3 m) or larger antenna. It can operate from 1.8 to 30...
