    New install...102 or Wilson roof-mount?

If you dont mind the size, use the whip since all others mobile antennas are just shortened 1/4 waves anyway. If size matters, choose a loaded antenna with a good reputation and warranty. Look at the ham antennas for ideas. Remember that anytime you shorten an antenna, you lose some performance...

    INSTALLING GROUND RODS INSIDE BASEMENTS

Tony, You hit it right on the head. If you are gonna take a hit, there is not a damn thing that will stop it. That is why my antenna connections go out the window in bad weather. Better safe. PR

    INSTALLING GROUND RODS INSIDE BASEMENTS

CK, I highly respect your opinion, but I am going to play devils advocate here. Convince me. After 40 years( many in FLA, the lightening capitol of the world) with NO problems, what am I doing wrong? Every house and barn in the country used to have lightening rods. most do not now...

My comment was meant to say that sweep tubes are getting expensive and good ones are harder to come by these days, not that they are bad. Also, the original relay is hard to come by, and modifications are needed to run a more available relay. Also, many 101 rigs were run to the wall on 11...

101E They are a great radio, but I would recommend that you pass on them. Reason one: The relays are made of unobtainium. Reason Two: They use sweep tube finals. Get a Kenwood TS-520. You will be happier. PS-I have a FT 101E myself, and know these things to be true. They are 100 watt...

    multiband base choices...

Make a list of radios you are interested in, spend some time on e-ham reading reviews, winnowing out the chaff, and take your time making a decision. I dont think there is a bad choice out there, just different choices. Just remember that some of the older rigs, like the 706, have parts that...

    Anyone use Kenwood Sky Command.

Pick up an 817 or the likes and some ham sticks and have at it. Much simpler, imho. PR

I bought a desk mic from Screwdriver several years ago on his recommendation. Came to me quickly, and wired for my 2000. He did a nice job and it worked well. Not much, I know, but all I can give you.

    new guy..

Well, Ham licenses will be of little use to your venture as it is ILLEGAL, ie: violation of federal law, to use ham radio in any type of business communication. Try cell phones.

I have a Cobra 29GTL radio for sale. It is in pretty fair cosmetic condition, and turns on ok, digital readout works ok, but radio shows no power output. It does key and rec/trans lamp goes from green to red. Being sold for repair or parts. Comes with mobile mounting bracket and stock hand mic...

Building 102' vertical Antenna for 11 meters...

That teflon tape probably wont do you any good as an insulator. It is designed for the threads to cut right thru it, and the tape to just fill in the gap in the threads between the two pieces of pipe, but to still provide continuity.
