    High SWR

I hate to ask the dumb question, but your swr is a flat two to one all the way across the band??? Never seen that before, but if that is all the higher it is, and you can't get better, I really wouldn't worry about it too much, as that is still not terrible, and will work fine.

    AM CB Myths???

People put swing kits on radios because the average person wants to "SEE" something happening. The more they "SEE" happening, the happier they are. Since you cant "SEE" radio waves, per se, the swings the thing.

Thanks Robb, I was wondering if anyone would say that he was making a good first step starting off in cb, or continue to push him right off the cliff.

Just a side note: There are many here who prefer to use a mobile with a power supply as a base setup. Now you just need a piece of coax, I like RG-8X myself, and your antenna.

Yep! Put up an antenna, hook that cobra, ( generally very good radios, by the way) to a power supply, and you are on the air. See how easy that is?:w00t:

There are way too many options for me to suggest any one of them. Peruse the message board posts here, and the for sale area, and hang around for a while to get some idea of what is what before you make any choices. The others here will be invaluable for information for you, too. BTW... a mobile...

No way to know what kind of radio you saw at the sale with that description, could be either one. Broadcasting is what the local am radio station that you listen to in the car is doing, just like tv stations. ONE WAY, They broadcast, you listen. In ham or cb, you are transmitting and receiving...

    Very new. Very confused.

CB Radio is a license free service, good for local communication, (with longer range comm possible), uses relatively small, simple antennas, which are usually used vertically polarized and is fairly easy to set up in both fixed and mobile operation. Ham radio is a licensed service, uses more...

Things are the same now as 40 years ago. CW is still valid, and the ONLY form of comm that will get through when nothing else will, antennas haven't changed, nor has electricity. Physics is still physics. Propagation is still propagation. RF is still RF. And, Good luck with the upcoming test.

    1/4 wave dipole.

Put it at the peak of your roof, tuck it under the shingles in a few places to hold it in place. Still invisible, but you gain 8 feet or so, and dont have to drill any holes in the eaves.

    OK automobile guys...

Just a guess, but Heater Core! The film on the windshield is coolant. Do you get a sweet smell in the car when the car is running? Do you get a fog inside when you turn on the heater? Is the carpet damp in the passenger foot well?
