the difference is WHERE the NB is located in the rx chain...most real ham transceivers the NB is within the I.F chain after the mixer just before the main I.F filter.so works at the IF frequency...
we have 2 of the dak 9's...after removing all the after market crap people did to them and all the usual recapping and realignment they seem to work fine ..actually better than the ssb version does on am

if the optima has the factory stock tiny phantom powered mic you are not giving it a chance
always hated that mic..and argued with the manufacturer for 6 years over it...the rest is history .

a optima like any anyclone (anytone.cre8900/lincoln II etc etc etc blah) can be turned up on AM mod to have picket fence audio you guys all seem to love on AM
